Introducing Betsy's Needlework.  This is the quilt I designed especially for the collection.

I wanted to create a patriotic collection, but do something very different than had been done before.  Loving American history as I do, I started thinking about Betsy Ross making our first flag.

I know there are many who don't think Betsy made the first flag, and I'm not here to debate the point.  What I do know, is when you think about Betsy Ross, we do think about the first flag, and quite frankly, there were hundreds of women and men who were making flags for our fledgling nation.  Betsy's Needlework pays tribute to all of those needleworkers who made an untold number of all different types of flags.  The sewing machine wasn't invented until 1848, so think of all of the flags that were made by hand!!

This is one block in Betsy's quilt.  The folks at Marcus Fabrics worked hard with me to create the Colonial 13 circle stars print.  The 13 circular stars are printed on the fabric and separated by subtle dotted lines so you can cut the square to sew into the block.

The sashing stripe is a replica of an old bunting I found that I just love.  You will have a lot of fun playing with that stripe if you choose.  There are lines of stars and the red/blue bunting all measuring in quilting increments so you can cut, sew and play!

Isn't the main bunting border magnificent?!!  The Marcus Art Dept. did such an awesome job of making a bunting from a photo I had of a building draped with bunting from the 1700s.

Wait until you see the fabric....it's is so detailed and beautiful!

Obviously, I used it as my border, but imagine making a fireplace hearth banner?  Creativity will take over!

Patriotic Stars is another quilt made from the Betsy's Needlework fabrics.  It has a very pretty whimsical floral print as the background, giving a soft feeling among the red and blue stars.

Betsy's Needlework will be delivered to your local quilt shop in December.  You can email me for a shop that has the fabric and kits.  Pam@HeartspunQuilts.com

Wishing you and your family a very bless and Happy Thanksgiving!

Keep your needle busy and your heart content!
