Fall is in the air here and I am enjoying every day of my favorite season! As the tree leaves begin to put on thier colorful show, I am in the mood for roasts, mashed potatoes, and pie.
While I was shopping for goodies at the Country Living Fair last weekend, I was also shopping for you! Lynne and I spotted these adorable little pumpkins at a booth crammed along with a million other shoppers! You could hardly get near the place. Lynne stood in line 30 minutes to pay for these little guys while I watched guard over our other purchases. The prize for the winning comment is the pumpkin in the foreground of the picture. It is made of dried corn husks...too cool! Don't you love the texture is has? I think its quite nice in this vignette.
Speaking of vignettes.....years ago when my kids were much younger (a-hem....and me, too!) I used to deck the house out in grand style for every holiday. No nook or cranny was left empty. I still love to decorate for the holidays, just not quite so grand. I don't have the time nor energy to do all of it, so I leave a few crannys bare, and go for a wonderful vignette in each room instead. It still gives the holiday feel I love with a lot less work! In future posts, I'll share some of my holiday decorating ideas, not that I'm a Martha, ya know...but a little something here or there might inspire an idea for you! I know that's how it is for me!
So, to enter the Fall Contest for the cute pumpkin, please comment on how you feel about decorating. What's your favorite time of year? Has your decorating style changed over the years like mine has? Comment before the clock strikes midnight on Saturday, October 9th. Happy Fall to everyone!
Darling pumpkin. My favorite time of year to decorate is fall with the deeper colors of autumn. My decorating style has definitely changed mainly when the girls were no longer home and no little hands and bodies around to disrupt the fragile decor.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful pumpkin....we thank you and Lynne for the wait in line! Fall and winter are my favorite seasons for decorating. I've always loved the primitive look...fabric, wood, and items from nature and still love the items I've had for years for the most part.
ReplyDeleteBeing a retired kindergarten teacher, I am in to decorating for the seasons/holidays. I use a lot more small quilts in my decorating now than I did before. Well, ten years ago, I only owned a few quilts!! I think Fall and the Christmas holidays are my favorite times for decorating. The pumpkin would fit right in with my country/prim decor.
ReplyDeleteI have joined the Prairie Women's group in Temecula, CA. What fun!

Oh... I see why you stood in line so long for that wonderful pumpkin, Pam! Fall is my favorite time of year - the colors, the harvest, the chill in the morning air, the angle of the sun - and Halloween! Over the years I've added more Fall themed quilts to my decorating, and lots and lots of pumpkins - ones I grow as well as the ones like yours! This year, now that I am retired, we are going full-out for Halloween - ghosts in the trees, and other spooky decorations! Oh - I love the little HST quilt under your pumpkin, too!
ReplyDeleteCheers!
What a good find and it is so cute~ Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteLike many quilters, my favorite time of year is fall. When my children were small, I too decorated for every holiday, including St. Patricks Day! Now I am lucky if one vignette is out for holidays other than Thanksgiving and Christmas. And we live on a street where the houses are far apart with no street lights, so trick-or-treaters, no chance! I miss the little ones in their costumes, but not the teenagers. My home is now very southwest in architecture, so my tons of southern country decor stays in their boxes. I still pull out all my pumpkins though, and that very textural pumpkin needs to join all my other ones. Perhaps I still decorate for fall because my birthday is in Oct. Thank Lynne for standing in line so we could have the opportunity to win this giveaway. Looking forward to your decorating ideas!
ReplyDeleteI used to decorate every thing. inside and out. But now that I live 4 hours from my now grown children I dont do much of anything. My holiday would be the 4th of July. I have flags out and keep them out all summer. I have been collecting the flags as of today to put away for the long cold winter. Most of my decorations were left in Richmond when we moved we downsized for my husbands job. I love the pumpkin. Pumpkins are my second favorite. I put them out for fall.
ReplyDeleteHi, I also used to decorate everything when the kids were younger and still at home. They all have homes of their own so now I just decorate smaller but a little something here and there. Christmas is still my favorite so I do the most for that holiday and it stays out the longest. I love your pumpkin and the picture you posted. Sandi szil949@yahoo.com
ReplyDeletePam, I love your little pumpkins. I decorated for fall today and I had to look at some pictures from last year to see where I put things. Now isn't that pitiful! LOL But there just is something about decorating for fall that makes you feel wonderful. Maybe it is because there is some relief from the long hot Texas summers.
ReplyDeleteCute Pumpkins! Fall has always been my favorite time, and I used to go all out for Halloween, but time passes, I'm old and tired so I just stick a pumpkin on the porch....grin.
ReplyDeletewhat cute pumpkins, and I love the small table quilt that it is sitting on... I love decorating my home for the autumn - Halloween through Thanksgiving - all the brilliant colors of yellow, rust, orange just make our homes so confortable and inviting. yum, the smell of cinnamon or vanilla is like the icing on a cake.. I would love to be entered in the drawing for the pumpkin that you so patiently waited in line for. Thanks and have a wonderful week. Martha
ReplyDeleteFall has become my favorite season! The cool, crisp evenings feel so good after a hot summer. The colors of Fall are vibrant, and I decorate with them starting out on my front porch. I carry the colors inside my home as well with flowers, leaves, pumpkins and of course QUILTS! I just want to wrap up in them and sip hot cocoa or warm cider from a large mug!
ReplyDeleteThanks for a fun give-a-way! That pumpkin is wonderful!
Pam, Fall is my absolute favorite time of the year-the weather, the smells, the food, and the decorating. I have everything out by September 1st so that I can enjoy three full months of it. I have lots of autumn quilts, table runners and wallhangings; I can't stop making them. I attended the PWSC at Connie's in Windsor. I loved it!!! Thank you for such a great class.
ReplyDeleteI too have scaled down my decorating for all holidays. I have passed a lot of things onto my two girls and enjoy seeing them in their homes now. My favorite is fall, then Christmas & I love the Bunny time too!! All my favorite decorations are the ones passed down to me from my mother. They bring back happy childhood memories.
ReplyDeleteHappy Fall to you Pam, Love your blog & I'm looking forward to Jan. for PWSC!!

Your fall vignette is wonderful! I've never decorated every nook and cranny. Some years have been better than others. My kids are grown and don't have kids yet so I'm in the weird place where I don't decorate much except for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I need to fix that!
ReplyDeletePam, I guess I have to say Christmas is my favorite time to decorate. But with all the kids grown it is a ton of work to do alone. Just like you it's alot of work!!! But I love it and I have way too much stuff and it takes days to get it all up. Would love to add the pumpkin to our fall decorations. Happy Fall.

Love the vignette, it's so cute! Happy October!!My favorite time of year to decorate is from October thru December -- pumpkins, turkeys, lights, candles, quilts, trees, and ornaments, I love it all.
ReplyDeleteCool weather, rustling leaves, bright blue sunny skies, the first frost and a "pumpkin" and yummy-smelling candle in every room! Does it get any more autumn than that? This little guy's a beauty.
ReplyDeleteMy very favorite decorating season is fall. I enjoy fall decorating even more than Christmas decorating! Thanks for the giveaway - the pumpkin looks really cute (and I have the perfect spot for it!) dsb448@att.net
ReplyDeleteHi Pam! The pumpkin is awesome! I'll bet the fair was great too. My very favorite holiday to decorate for is Halloween, with Christmas a close second. I think I get more excited about Halloween because it signals cooler weather is here, as I'm really not a summer/hot weather kind of girl.
ReplyDeleteI've always decorated every nook and cranny, but I too, am starting to slow down a bit. I really like your idea of having one special vignette in each room. Maybe I'll take that approach for Christmas this year.
Love the pumpkin! Like you the older I get the less I decorate. My favorite holiday for decorating is Christmas. My next favorite holiday is Halloween. I put out several fall quilts and other goodies I have collected over the years.
ReplyDeleteI am loving your Prairie Women's Sewing Circle!

ReplyDeleteI love fall too! The colors are so beautiful up here in God's country! I would love to decorate more for fall but with harvest keeping me busy, I hardly have time to leave the kitchen! I do, however, have a beautiful wicker vase that is filled with different varieties of bearded wheat. The pumpkin beside it would look great!
Have a great fall!
Catherine
I can't really choose...every season is my favorite. Seeing the change around me makes me happy. I love your fall decorations though, it's inspirational. And the little quilt too!
ReplyDeleteHappy fall & hugs
It's so nice of you to give away the cute pumpkin! I would be thrilled to receive it! I love to decorate my home for the holiday's, especially fall and winter! I have some Jim Shore items, lots of pumpkins, some with flower arrangements in them, and of course my fall table runners that I've made. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because I am SO grateful for my many blessings! I love having our family for dinner, love, love love turkey, dressing and all the trimmings. It is a time for us to reflect upon the love we have for each other and how God has blessed us that year.
ReplyDeleteGod's Blessings to all!
Karen
NEVER gave it much thought, but outside of Christmass, FALL happens to be the holiday I have the most decorations for!
ReplyDeleteMy decorating has changed over the years. I use to decorate for each season, but I don't have as much time these days. I don't feel as enthusiastic about it anymore. I don't know that I have a favorite time of year. We have all seasons here in PA and I love and dislike certain parts of each. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI love Spring! The crocus and daffodils pop up through the soil, and it's time for the lighter colored quilts to pop up over a chair, on the wall and on the porch. After the dreariness of late winter in the Midwest, Spring is most welcome! I tend to decorate with small vignettes here and there around the house.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the cute pumpkin give away. Very different. I love fall - I soak in the 'colors' and dye wool for projects. Can never find enough time to do everything on my project list fast enough. So many things to enjoy. I, too, have reduced my decorating for everything - still enjoy some but just not so much as in the past.
ReplyDeleteI don't decorate the inside much but I do have a large rock garden with plenty of colorful mums and lots of pumpkins scattered throughout. It really looks nice. I love fall for the colorful trees and the cool fresh air.

Pam,
ReplyDeleteThat pumpkin is absolutely adorable!!! My favorite time to decorate is Christmas. The last 10 years or so my style has changed. Now I really enjoy getting out my Christmas quilts and table toppers. I have alot of ornaments that my Grandma made out of beads that really make our tree sparkle. She loved to paint and did alot of china painting in her later years. We have alot of those ornaments too. I guess I am just getting really sentimental with age :)
Take care,
Karen Wood
Hi Pam! Love your pumpkin. Fall is such a colorful time of year. That pumpkin sure would look wonderful on my table as a center piece. Hint Hint. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteI would love to learn to decorate! But alas I'm but very inexperienced. A pumpkin would be a great start though!
ReplyDeleteFall has to be my favorite time of year. I was born in September, so I think that has something to do with it.
ReplyDeleteI love the smells, sights and sounds of fall: cinnamon, pumpkin, clear blue skies, fall flowers and crunching leaves.
P.S. I love the little quilt with your display. I must make time to do something similar for myself!
Fall and Spring have to be my very favorite times of year to decorate - Christmas and 4th of July are too short-lived and you can't enjoy them as long. I'm going to have fun decorating my new home and yes my taste has changed drastically!! By the way - I am enjoying your blog!
ReplyDeleteTressa
Yes, my tastes have changed...to vintage and antique looks...less is more. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Easter, the time of my birth. Coloring eggs with Mom, and discovering those "sweet" baskets the next morning. Precious memories to me now. I, too, love your blog! Sharon
