I've pulled fabric for a new Journey Five quilt. I've had it pinned to my design wall for a week and can't seem to decided on which of the two light prints would be best. Both have good qualities and I'm sure would look great. The print on the top is lighter, and has that little dash of red (which, of course, I love), but I'm not sure if I want to go that light. I love the bottom print just as much...it's a bit darker, but will read as more of a solid in the quilt. I can't decide! The decision I did make was to ask you for your help!!
Which light print would you choose?
Help! Pam
PS....last call to email me a photo of your Orphans & Scraps sew~along quilt! The "Airing of the Quilts" will begin on Monday.....no foolin'!
Lovely fabrics! I would choose the lightest fabric, I think it would make a good contrast to the others! Wish you a good easter!
ReplyDeleteVery cute fabrics. I like the darker fabric...I think it compliments the flower print better.
ReplyDeleteI have always loved that green KT fabric, sure hope I have enough to use in the PWSC quilt you design. I like the darker one, think it works better with the other fabrics.
ReplyDeleteThey are both lovely, but I think the one with the pop of red will tie in with the reds in the others better.
ReplyDeleteI like the lighter one. Good for contrast and that little spark of red is yummy. It will be beautiful whatever one you choose.
ReplyDeleteYou have some wonderful fabrics here...I think my choice would be the darker of the two, but when I make a project, I always change my mind, even after I have cut out the pieces. So good luck with your decision...giggle!
ReplyDeleteI like the darker fabric, but either would work just fine.
ReplyDeleteI love the lighter one with the dash of red.
ReplyDeleteI am thinking the darker one..anxious to see the end result. Have fun with your decision:)
ReplyDeleteI would go for the darker of the light fabrics. It is less the "same" as the other small prints. The lighter print is very similar in texture to the red and green prints.
ReplyDeleteThe lighter one offers contrast for a happy combination... the darker offers a blend with a cozy combination.... hmmmm.... I would say the darker one as it keeps with the Civil War antique-iness? ;-) Looking forward to seeing which one you chose!
ReplyDeleteNah... I changed my mind... I like the lighter one as it helps bring out the lights in the other fabrics... the darker is too much like the other ones and would make the larger floral look out of place... that's it... final answer... lol!
ReplyDeleteI like the darker...just one girls opinion!
ReplyDeleteI would go with the lighter fabric but, whatever you choose, both will look lovely.
ReplyDeleteI enlarged the photo and tried to cover each one with my hand to see just one at a time with the other fabrics. I assumed I would prefer the dark, but they both look good! I am so much help! : )
ReplyDeleteI would go with the fabric with the red but I don't think you can make a wrong choice. The fabrics are lovely.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte
Both are good, but I would use the darker one.
ReplyDeleteI like the one with the tiny dot of red. They're both lovely, but the tiny red dot just peaks my interest in the fabric.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought is go with the darker because you already have red dots in the green - but either would be great.
ReplyDeleteI would go with the lighter color. It will brighten the quilt a bit and give it some spark. Both will look solid from any distance so that shouldn't be a factor in your decision. I don't know what the quilt looks like, so I don't know if it is possible to make a block and then audition both of them. That's what I like to do when I'm not sure. Or even four blocks. I find I can always use the pieces I cut that don't end up in one quilt for another quilt. I'm all for auditioning - you know what the feeling is you are going for - the rest of us don't. For me, I think each of my quilts needs a little "spark" to make the viewer go "wow". The lighter also brings out the light "halo" around the flowers in the blue print.
ReplyDeleteI like the darker of the two light fabrics best. :)
ReplyDeleteThe lighter one brightens things up a bit more. While the darker is going to tone things down a bit. It really depends on what look you are going for. If that light with the red is next to the red print much, then those two fabrics are going to look fabulous together.
ReplyDeleteI vote for the lighter one :-)
ReplyDeleteI like the lighter one. It picks up the highlighting on the flowers in the blue piece. They're both great choices though. I'm so anxious to see this finished quilt.
ReplyDeleteI like the one on top with a little dash of red! Looking forward to the Airing of the Quilts!
ReplyDeleteMaybe the colors aren't reading correctly on my screen but I'd go back to the stash and look for option 3.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the one on top. Maybe it's just my screen, but the one on the bottom reads almost like a medium, I think it would result in a "muddy" quilt without enough contrast.
ReplyDeleteI like the contrast the lighter fabric brings to the mix, and the bits of red tie in beautifully with the other prints, as well. I think it sparks up the collection.
ReplyDeleteI'm leaning toward the lighter of the two. They are both nice but I like the lighter one just a scant 1/4" more! Will watch for finished project. Happy Easter from the PNW where spring has arrived momentarilt anyway
ReplyDeleteI see you have a divided poll, but I have to admit that I like the darker of the two best.
ReplyDeleteThey are both good, but I prefer the light one. It adds a little punch to the group. Have a wonderful Easter!
ReplyDeleteI like the light one with the red!
ReplyDeleteI prefer the lighter fabric with the red because it looks just right to me! (I don't think we are offering much help with your decision!)
ReplyDeleteI liked the combination of all of the fabrics together but if you have to select one of the beige tones over the other, I like the darker one. However, that being said, I think either one would look nice. Doesn't help much does it? Have a wonderful Easter.
ReplyDeleteI also suggest the lighter fabric with the red. It seems to pick up the other colours and make them sparkle. The darker one just sits there.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your decision!
Take care, Leslie
I definitely would go with the lighter w. a little red. That one definitely stands out as the light where the darker one leans more towards a medium.
ReplyDeleteI like the lighter fabric but they are both nice whichever one you choose!
ReplyDeleteThose fabrics are just wonderful.I`d choose the darker one.Happy sewing!!
ReplyDeleteI think I would use the lighter fabric, that little bit of red makes the other reds pop. Happy Easter Pam.
ReplyDeleteI would use the lighter print. It adds a bit more contrast. One more fabric that reads as solid might give it a muddy look when finished. Mary in AZ
ReplyDeleteAt first glance I would pick the lighter one with those darling red flecks BUT after looking harder I think the darker one would work better. The light one really makes the light edges in those little red flowers stand out however, I like how the darker print makes those tiny brownish flowers with the little red center make sense. I'm sure whatever you choose will be delightful.
ReplyDeleteJust say eenie meenie miney moe! They both would look nice! Without seeing the pattern it's kinda hard to pick. I'm leaning toward the darker one, however. The other one seems just a tad too bright to me, although I love the bit of red in it. You have a hard choice to make. :/
ReplyDeleteI love the lighter one with the touch of red.
ReplyDeleteOh it is def the lighter one with the little bite of red!
ReplyDeleteSusan Vicary
I like the grey with the small bit of red in it. I think it fits in better with the combo.
ReplyDeleteI like the lighter one with the red. It brings a little brightness to the other colors!
ReplyDeleteI like the light one with the bit of red. www.notionnanny.blogspot.com
ReplyDeletePam, my preference would be the darker, dirtier one however if you want stonger contrast then go with the lighter option. Either way both will look great, i'm sure :))) cheers...Marian
ReplyDeleteI vote for the lighter one - it has that delightful little red bit in it, and it will brighten the quilt up just that little bit. Have fun! Liz
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely selection of fabrics! I like both of the light fabrics but prefer the one with the little bits of red. Either one is likely to make a beautiful quilt with the rest of the fabrics!
ReplyDeleteI like them both but would go with the lighter one..gives a bit of punch to the palette!
ReplyDeleteI would go with the lighter one, but I like a lighter background.
ReplyDeleteI like the lighter one.
DeleteI would use the lighter one. It will give life or a little spark to your quilt, as the darker doesn't have enough life in comparison.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, I hope your will enjoy your decision.
I prefer the lighter one - all your other fabrics are the same value and the lighter fabric will sparkle. The other "light" is closer to the value of the other materials and won't stand out. If you still can't decide, try taking a black and white photocopy of the fabrics with the two you can't decide between and see which pairing will give you the contrast you are looking for.
ReplyDeleteI choose the lighter one with the dash of red.
ReplyDeleteI'd pick the top one - it seems to have a bit more "sparkle".
