Nabby's Dowry Sew~Along Part Twelve

Welcome to the Big Reveal!!!

Here's what you've been working toward these past many weeks.....
Nabby's Dowry Sew~Along Quilt
I really, really hope you like how the quilt has turned out!!!  I'm loving it.  Having the blocks set on-point gives them a new look, and I love the "Flying Geese" points radiating from the center square.  The quilt has lots of movement to it as your eye travels from place to place, and the quilt setting not only calms the quilt, but also serves to separate and anchor the blocks.

Here's the cutting instructions for finishing your quilt:

From the 3/8 yard of light for setting triangles:
*Cut (2) 12 5/8" squares - cross cut twice for side triangles.
*Cut (2) 6 5/8" squares - cross cut once for corner triangles.

From 3/8 yard of red print for sashing:
*Cut (3) 1 1/2" x WOF strips; subcut (18) 1 1/2" x 6 1/2" strips for block side sashing.
*Cut (4) 1 1/2" x WOF strips.  These are the long, horizontal (in-between rows) sashing strips.

Measure the length of your rows and cut.

From the 1/2 yard of brown plaid for borders:
*Cut (4) 3 1/2" x WOF strips.

From the 1/3 yard of red for binding:
*Cut (4) 2 1/4" x WOF strips.

Finishing instructions:

*Sew your quilt top together in a diagonal set.

*Sew a 1 1/2" x 6 1/2" strip onto the sides and in between the blocks; in all cases, press to sashing.

*Arrange the long sashing strips, the blocks, and the setting triangles as shown in the photo.  Sew together, diagonally, into rows; again, press to the sashing.  Sew rows together; press.  Your quilt center should measure approximately 30 1/4" square.

*Sew brown plaid side borders first, then top/bottom borders; press to the borders.

*Your Nabby's Dowry quilt should measure approximately 36 1/4" x 36 1/4" unfinished.
Once again, I'd love for you to take a picture of your quilt and send it to me in an email for an....
Airing of the Quilts!
I know everyone enjoys seeing all the different quilts just as much as I do!!  All you have to do is sew your top together.  It does NOT have to be quilted!!  Email a JPG photo of your quilt to me at Pam@HeartspunQuilts.com.  Tell me where you live (state or country is good) and anything else you'd like to add.  Like, how you chose your fabrics, why you participate in sew-alongs,  what else is happening in your life....anything you'd like to share.  I think it will be fun to read about other peoples experiences, and what they've been sewing with, etc., while we've all been piecing together.  After all, we've been meeting here on my blog every Friday for the last 12 weeks!!  So, lets get to know each other a little better!  If you'd feel more comfy just giving your state or country, that will be just fine, too! No worries!!

Send your photo no later than December 1st!

  6. I'm the one using some smaller leftover 1/2 sq.triangles. Blocks will finish at 4" (they're 4-1/2" now). You said to contact you towards the end of the quilt along & you'd help me figure out the cutting. Maybe size of sashing strips & size to cut the squares to make the setting triangles? That would be awesome, but if not, that's okay too, I'll try to figure it out. Thank you! I love the big reveal!!

  7. Hi Pam, LOVE the big reveal and it turned out fantastic! It has been so much fun making these lovely blocks each week, I'm up to speed with them. And of course now the big reveal is there: I have a nasty cold, it's making me see the needle twice! First thing I'll do when my head clears up : assembling Nabby's Dowry. Thank you so much for the fun you gave me, wishing you a good weekend, hug from Anita in a rainy Netherlands.

  9. WooHoo--love it. Had played with this layout and this is actually how the blocks are on my design wall. I was hoping it would be the way you finished. Can't wait to sew it up, but I'm stumped on the colors to use for my finish, since I made mine with bright batiks. I'll have to audition some fabrics today. Great pattern, Pam. Never disappointed with your SALs!!

  13. I love the reveal. I have to confess that I woke up at 4 AM Eastern and couldn't get back to sleep. As soon as you posted it, I got to work and finished mine an hour or so ago. I love it! Thank you so much for the great sew along. It was so much fun. Fridays are not going to be the same from now on. Coincidentally, I got my delivery from the Fat Quarter shop yesterday of my American Gothic Fat Quarter pack. They are gorgeous!

  15. Love the setting, especially the center block and the flying geese.

I'm glad we've got 2 months to finish it since I'm still working on last week's blocks. Can't wait till I'm done with my work and chores today so I can get back to stitching! :)

  18. I am making two, both smaller versions with 5 1/2 inch blocks. I hit a snag on the triangles and emailed you, but since you were out of the office, I went ahead and with the help of several websites figured it out. My top is done now, and I'm glad that I went ahead and did some investigating, I feel more confident now, I've been kind of afraid of "on point". Thank you so much for the pattern and the quilt along, it has been great fun and I'm so happy with my top. I did the calmer one first for my great granddaughter's dolly quilt, and I have hopes that my wild and crazy one will turn out just as well. I think that Mackenzie and her dolly will love theirs and I'm sure I'll love mine, too.

  19. Pam, Thanks so much for blocks I have enjoyed making them each week I have all bright prints so I am using Kona Black for my sashing and small yellow print for my triangles, and black and silver flowers for my border. I have never done any thing on point so this is something new to try. Thanks so much.
