Happy Fourth of July America!!!
What a perfect day to reveal my little red, white and blue (with a dash of gold) quilt!
Well???? What do ya think??? Gee, here I sit alone in the studio wishing I could hear your thoughts as you see the quilt for the first time!! Gosh, I hope you like it! I really love it. It is, as promised, made with very simple quilting blocks, and yet, I think it has some great pizazz!!
From the photo you can see how to set your blocks. In addition you'll need to cut the following borders:
Remember, the cutting instructions for the smaller size quilt will be listed in red.
*Cut (3) 1 1/2" x WOF strips.
*Cut (2) 1" x WOF strips.
From red floral print:
*Cut (4) 3 1/2" x WOF strips.
*Cut (2) 2 1/2" x WOF strips.
From binding fabric:
*Cut (4) 2 1/4" x WOF strips.
*Cut (3) 2 1/4 x WOF strips.
You will need 1 yard of backing for the full size quilt and 3/4 yard backing for the mini version.
Here is my mini version. I chose a smaller scale print for the border to match the smaller size of the quilt. It is adorable! Did you enjoy making the mini? Was this your first small-size quilt?
Here are my two quilts side by side. The mini version is half the size. Love, love, love them both!
I plan on quilting my mini just stitching in the ditch. My pal, Ronda, quilted the full size version. I thought you'd like to see what designs I chose to use.
I've been asked more than a few times why I give away a quilt design for free?
Simply put, it is to thank all my customers and readers for all they....YOU....give to me! I greatly appreciate your business, and all your comments, both on the blog and Facebook.... and now Instagram! And...I enjoy the whole idea of sewing the same project with my quilter-friends from around the world! The sew-alongs really can't begin to show how appreciative I really am for all of the friendship you send my way. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
The "Airing of the Quilts"
One of the best parts of every Pocket Patchwork Sew-along is looking forward to the "Airing of the Quilts", aka show-n-tell. This is where everyone gets to see what your quilt looks like!
Please send me a JPG image of your quilt(s) no later than September 15th.
Your quilt does not have to be quilted! We just want to enjoy seeing the fabrics you chose and how it turned out. Even if you bought the Market Day kit, we want to see everyone's quilt.
So....you have a little over two months to sew your quilt top together. Click here to go to Flickr to get a sneak peek preview at what folks have been making for the sew-along .
Email your photo as a JPG attachment to Pam@HeartspunQuilts.com.
Please include your first name and last initial, and the town/state or country where you live. The "Airing of the Quilts" will begin shortly thereafter. I'd love to hear your comments about the quilt design.
Loving the sew-along but sorry it has come to an end? No worries!
Remember, the Friends & Companions Sew-Along will begin August 1st!! Click here to read all the details. You won't want to miss the fun!!
A Prairie Gathering
My Prairie Gathering Quilt of the Quarter program is now up on the Marcus Fabrics website. There you can read a bit more about how it all works and see all the fabrics!
It will only be available through participating quilt shops, so be sure to ask for it at your local quilt shop!!
P.S. I'd love to hear from you about the Market Day Sew-Along. I'd like to know if you like or dislike it, of course, but also about the amount of sewing you had each week. Was it just right? Too much? How many sew-alongs per year would you like? How much time between new sew-alongs would you like? All of this will help me with planning future sew-alongs.

Hi Pam,
ReplyDeletesooo surprised to see the finished quilt up, usually comes in the middle of the night for me- I'm in Australia. Just need to say I LOVE IT!!! I had no idea what the little quilt would look like from the blocks- this quilt is gorgeous. I'm off now to put the blocks together- might be a late night it's 10pm here now. So Happy. Thanks so much.
Loved them both, the small one just seems to dance. They are both beautiful..
ReplyDeleteMaggey
I'm thrilled, Pam! Delightful design--I didn't even come close to guessing the layout. It is a beauty!
ReplyDeleteI made the mini and I made ALL of the components on Monday of this week. Every Friday I copied the instructions and had good intentions of following them before the next installment. Never happened.
I don't get a whole lot of time to sew, and with the other projects I am trying to do, probably 2 SALs a year is my limit. But I am happy to watch if you chose to do more. I do SALs on a few other blogs occasionally, too, and I can't keep up with all of them all the time and still get my own projects made.
I love that you had a mini version this time. And a few SALs ago the whole thing was basically a mini. I am more inclined to participate in making small quilts. They are more doable, no matter what else I have going on.
Thanks for another great SAl. You always have beautiful designs!!
Love them have printed the instructions each week but a really busy summer looking forward to making it when things calm down a bit thank you
ReplyDeleteI LOVE IT! I didn't have a clue as to how it would look but I LOVE IT! Thanks so much for the Sew-Along!
ReplyDeleteLove it, red, white & blue are one of my favorites. Anxious to finish mine! Thanks so much Pam!
ReplyDeleteSharon
I love it Pam. I saw it earlier on Instagram but needed to come on the computer and see it larger.
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
With company coming today and staying till Sunday I won't have any time to sew but I hope I can get this finished next week.
Thank you again for the free pattern! LOVE IT!

This is my favorite of all of your SAL so far! I own several of the fabrics from this line and let me say - you and MB did an amazing job on this one! The colors are just perfect, it's not always easy to find that good, deep red, but you did it in this line. LOVE! I didn't make the quilts - just watched as you posted the pieces, but now I really want to do them, or at least the mini. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletePam, You have done it again!!! I love it. I have kept up every week by making both sizes and I'm so glad I did because now I can jump right into putting this awesome quilt together. I wish I could give you a big thank you hug!!! Happy 4th to you, I am off to sew!!! Karen
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU for being so generous with your time and talent!! Love this sweet quilt!
ReplyDeleteP
Well, this girl will be visiting past posts to print the instructions! I've been watching from the wings and so sorry now!!! Love it!
ReplyDeleteHi Pam,
ReplyDeleteI sewed my parts to the SAL each week and I tried to come up with a design after last weeks post. I did but it was not quite the one you designed. I like yours a whole lot more. I guess that's why you are the pattern designer! I love your design - so clever!
I did both sizes and I felt the amount of sewing was about right. I am retired so I have a lot more time than some people. I would not want to take any longer than we did. I love small quilts and I make many of them but I think the other size will be nice for a table topper. Several SALs a year are nice but people can always opt out if they don't have the time.
Thanks for sharing a great design. I appreciate the time and effort this project took.
Happy 4th!

I love it! I couldn't figure out how all those pieces were going to fit together. And how perfect to reveal it on the 4th of July. I can't wait to put mine together. Thanks so much!

I love the quilts...both of them!! I have everything done for both sizes except the last tiny pinwheels. I can't wait to put them together. This was my first mini quilt and it won't be my last......so cute!! Thank you so much for this SAL!!
ReplyDeleteThat is just beyond gorgeous! I love it. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous and the perfect day for the reveal! I had quite a few projects in the works during this sew-along, so I did not sew each week... but, thought the amount of sewing for each week was "just right".... once I get caught up with 2 other projects, I hope to make one of these quilts! Simply SUPER! Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteThis was my first sewalong and it was fun. The blocks were easy to make. I really like the finished quilt and will get to work on putting it together tomorrow. Thank you for all that you do to make quilting fun.
ReplyDeleteHow many time can we say THANKS? It's Beautiful!!! Today is the perfect day for the Reveal! I love the Quilting you chose as well. Happy 4th to you!
ReplyDeleteYou are such a doll...thank you for such a wonderful project!! Just loving it here!!
ReplyDeleteMarket Day is adorable! I love the colours and the fabrics that you used. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOh Pam, your reveal is SEW worth waiting for and SEW beautiful!!! Your high res pictures take a while to load on my rural broadband, so I was sitting on the edge of my chair as each part of the picture came into view, telling it to hurry up!! You really know how to make simple blocks become part of a more complicated looking and beautiful design. I LOVE this design and I thank you for your kindness and generosity in sharing it with us. Rhonda did some awesome quilting, too! Can't wait to see the "Airing of the quilts" in September. :-) Thank you for this awesome pattern and your friendship. You're such a blessing! Hugs, Karla
ReplyDeleteI love it! Thank you sew much for doing the sew-alongs! I think the amt of sewing was just right and I wouldn't have gotten behind if I hadn't been gone for a month. ;-) I will catch up! Is 2/yr a good amount for you? I will certainly be following! Thanks again and happy 4th!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea what it was going to look like...love the surprise reveal. It is such a cute quilt. I've been sewing along with you and it was perfect. I'm working on another large quilt and it gave me a nice short break from it every week. I'll finish the top this week and hopefully have it quilted by the end of this month. Thanks for having the sew along, I'm a big fan of your patterns.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is fabulous, and the gold centre is just the right touch. Thanks so much for offering this free pattern. It's one I'll be starting on very soon.
ReplyDeleteI love it! Thank you, thank you! Can't wait till the next one.
ReplyDeleteDonna
Love it! :)
ReplyDeleteThe nine patches were a bit too much sewing at once, but just the one square-in-a-square for Part 1 was too little. The other parts felt just about right. The total length of the sew-along was perfect: it wrapped up just as I was beginning to feel restless. ;)
One sew-along per year is good. The timing of this one was good too.
Thanks again for hosting these, Pam. Your hard work and generosity is greatly appreciated. :)
Do love the layout! I can't wait to finish mine! Thanks for taking us on this quilting journey with you!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love it!!! Thank you "sew" much for sharing your pattern with us! You are "sew" kind! I bought your kit and love the fabrics! Can't wait to put mine together today!
ReplyDeleteThanks again! HUGS... and stitches
Oh my goodness...it is just fabulous!!!!! I am behind, but had to see the finished product. Mine is from my stash, so looking forward to seeing others' who did the same. The layout is perfect, and it is such a nice quilt for the patriotic holidays. Thank you so much for making this available to us, and looking forward to the next one already. Happy 4th!!!!! Hope you are dry....been raining all day here.
ReplyDeleteI love the sewalongs and think that the amount of sewing each week is good. I made mine more scrappy as my stash is getting scaRy. I am totally in love with the minis rather than the full size blocks. They seem more versatile to me and I think that the tiny ones really shine! Posted mine on flickr under sewnsewsue
ReplyDeleteI love all your sewalongs and I absolutely love this. Perfect!!! I love the layout, colors, etc. Mine is kind of scrappy but it works for me. Lord knows I have to use these scraps sometime, somehow, somewhere! ;) Thank you so very much for sharing your talent with us. Small one is adorable as well. I love minis and the smaller ones. Thank you again!!!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! Absolutely gorgeous! Thank you so much for this free SAL. It was my first. Will be finishing mine up asap and get the photo sent to you. Looking forward to seeing everyone's. Yes, we all do greatly appreciate your generosity and patterns. 'Hoping you had a safe & happy 4th :)

ReplyDeleteThank you sew much.. I love this and would never have guessed how to put it all together. I have the blocks together and am getting ready to add borders. Thanks again for sharing and teaching.
ReplyDeleteLove it.It's absolutely beautiful!
