The Moment You Get Your First Look

At this moment, this glorious moment.....when all of the piecing of the "parts" of a quilt are complete.....you're about to get your first look at what the quilt really looks like.  So exciting!

Star Spangled Liberty is about to become a real quilt instead of an EQ drawing.  Drum roll, please!

My friend Deb and I pieced the quilts just as you will, by following the monthly patterns.  I'm writing as I am piecing, checking and double checking what seems like a million details, all to deliver (to the very best of my ability!) a perfect BOM program.

By the time you read this, I'll be sorting blocks, adding sashing and borders, and seeing what was a creation of my imagination come to life.

I know I've been kinda MIA from my blog the last week or so, and now you know why.  Don't think I'm not thinking about blogging, or wondering how you all are doing.  You've been quiet, too!

So....let's get some chatter going here.

Leave me a blog comment on what spurs you to buy that great piece of fabric, a quilt pattern, or sign up for a BOM.  What is it about that product that says "I have to have that", or "I really want to make that?"

On Monday, I will choose a bunch of you to receive the Heartspun Quilts pattern of your choice!!  (PWSC patterns not included.)  To be fair to everyone, only comments left to this blog post will be entered.  If you leave your comments anonymously, is most helpful to type your email address at the end of your comment like this: PamAtHeartspunQuiltsDotCom

Enjoy your weekend!!  You know what I'll be doing.....sewing!!  Yippee!!

  1. Fabric buying for me is impulsive. Theres no logic behind most purchases. I love...its mine..all mine! Pattern buying usually means its challenging design or new technique. I've never purchased a bom, the progress is to slow and I lose interest.

  2. I'll buy fabric when I see something I really love and have a project in mind for it. Though now that we're both retired I'm a lot more selective because our budget is fixed. If I find a great deal on sale fabrics or happen upon a wonderful yard or estate sale, all bets are off!

  3. I am guessing that designing this quilt was akin to giving birth. What you are showing is fantastic.

I am a impulsive, compulsive buyer. I don't have to have a pattern in mind to buy fabric. Part of the joy for me is mixing fabrics as I put together a quilt. To me, usually, the pattern is a guide to help me along the way, not that it is cast in stone and has to be done like the picture. Without you designers I would flounder in the process of enjoying this wonderful hobby.

  4. I am inspired by quilts I see friends working when we sew together on Tuesdays and by wonderful photos such as Star Spangled Victory in your beautiful fabrics. Of course, that means I am working on too many projects at once.
I enjoy your blog with so many ideas and photos.

  5. I love mostly old fashioned, traditional type patterns. And I love fabric. Most fabric. No rhyme nor reason to what I buy. I'm not good with BOM's because I lose interest if I can't keep working on something. And I'm on a fixed income, so if I can make something from my scraps or stash, it's all very good!!

  6. Its pretty much all about falling in love and having the cash to splash. I haven't worked for more than a year, so I was only buying fabric I had to have (eg borders, backings, wadding) and patterns were all from my books, magazine collection or free online. Now I have some part time work I am still trying to be careful, but I still love reproduction fabric and if its my favorite colour or a nice print, then I am hooked!

  7. What stirs me to buy fabric or quilt pattern? Well I'm a traditionalist at heart so quilt patterns that have that look will always be a draw for me. Fabric in earth tones, blues and reds that are more on the "muddy" end of the spectrum make me happy. Civil war fabrics are a favorite of mine. I've never committed to a BOM, perhaps it's time.

  9. Being born on the 4th of July, I love anything patriotic. Red white and blue, always call my name. I lean toward star patterns, both simple and complex. I'm also drawn to Civil War era fabrics and patterns.

  10. A beautiful quilt, and what an exciting moment to see it come together. I'm an impulsive fabric buyer, if it really strikes my fancy I grab some. I like BOM's to be something out of my comfort zone but still appealing to me. And for patterns I'm all about learning something new.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I don't buy much fabric anymore. I love making scrap quilts. But a BOM, well, it has to grab my heart! And I can't stop thinking about. It consumes me... So out come the credit card!

    ReplyDelete
  12. A lot depends on what I have been working on previously. If it something I really like the next project will be similar. If I have had enough the the previous project I will be looking for something different to try. And...I reserve the right to change my mind at any time and start something else! :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. I will buy a fabric or join a BOM only if it makes my heart sing the moment I see it. It is usually the colors that draw me in first. Then comes the connection with the design. I find that fabric or pattern selection is a little like buying a piece of art. I have to love it. There needs to be an immediate emotional connection or it can happily stay on the shelf.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I join a BOM then put together the fabrics. Love the patriotic theme....

    ReplyDelete
  15. For me to buy a new pattern or more fabric it really has to catch my eye right away - like Star Spangled Liberty! I'm loving that pattern! Red, white and blue are my very favorite colors to put together and I love civil war fabrics!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Color is what draws me to fabric, and checks or plaids are way on top of the list. I find it very difficult to find good plaids and, although I don't need more, if I see them in my color preferences, I add them to my stash. DH doesn't complain about my piles of plaids, because he's the one who always reminds me ... "It won't be here when you come back".

  17. Shopping with friends is a big motivator! Can't let them get something and not me :). That's often when I sign up for a BOM or a class; so fun to do with friends. Sometimes I use fabric shopping as a reward for myself for being a good girl :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. BOM - it is easier/quicker to do 'one month' versus thinking about getting a whole quilt done. Patterns/fabric must be traditional colors.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I rarely buy fabric (even the patterns that call out to me) unless I have a specific project in mind. It's the only way to keep my stash under (sort of) control. I'm kind of addicted to new patterns and I absolutely adore BOM's - but these days I don't purchase or sign up unless the "theme" of the quilt calls out to me. Like your new BOM - which looks like it's going to be fabulous! SunshdwsAtYahooDotCom

  20. COLOR - glorious color. Then, what can I do with that color - do I have anything to go with it or shall I look for something to sing with it. I think the color often dictates the use in a purchased pattern or one from my head. I love patriotic colors and always will. Lately tho, I've been finding my way into different color combinations which is exciting. We need to keep moving and consider new things and techniques. We may come back to the familiar, but I never want to be stuck in a rut and unable to give something new a try. I also love to have several projects going at once. It keeps the brain active!

  21. I have to love the look of the fabric and just want to touch it and play with the pieces I have cut out. I live along way away and my husband is often waiting in the car for me to pick out things so I do go to BOM or kits. He is happy to support me in my choice if I don't take to long in making it.

  22. I don't really know what triggers me, but a lot of different things tickle me, and when I get that inner zing, I usually go for it, whether it's fabric or a pattern. I am so attracted to all these repro fabrics, and then I see some of the crazy skulls and roses and love them, too!

Thx for your wonderful blog - I really enjoy it!

  23. I am attracted to BOM's like yours, Strikes me as awesome when I first see it, it looks difficult but is rather simple when you break it down. Then color, I love the earth tone, antique looking colors that just make you feel warm inside when you see them. Design, start with a beautiful large print and then add color from there. I love every aspect of quilting except putting on borders, sewing on those long pieces of fabric is rather boring.

  24. Be still my heart!!! I love anything red, white, and blue!! Your new pattern is so Americana!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I love the Civil War quilts and Patriotic ones attract me also. I would use my STASH. I have several BOM and Blocks of the week in progress already so I'll have to see how many I can keep up with when this one starts. I am easily tempted! Just ask my Blogging friends. Thanks for a chance to get a pattern from your collection.

  26. Boy Pam, it doesn't take much for me to buy fabric....I have about 20 quilts planned ahead and about four or five in the works! HA! I know, that might be a little ridiculous but.....If I love a piece of fabric, I know I will have a place for it. My stash leans to the colors and prints you use in your designs and it contains a lot of your fabrics. My pattern library has several of yours as well and I never go wrong with your tastes. Anyone that reads this is probably wondering what I do with all the quilts....this is the hobby I planned for, for retirement so I don't think what cost I have in a quilt before I give it away. If the quilt "matches" the person and there is an occasion to gift it, that is what I do! Keep up the good work-I love what you do!

  27. Absolutely beautiful! All of your work is...this is so patriotic though, that is what strikes me!

  29. I LOVE fabric and sometimes when I go into a fabric store I see something that "has my name" on it and I just have to have it. Usually I don't have a pattern in mind but the fabric dictates to me what I'll make with it. I really like Civil War and reproduction fabrics. (Jan at janrich@centurytel.net)

  30. I have always enjoyed the "more traditional" type quilts. Since moving to TN two years ago I have really fallen in love with anything and everything Civil War. I am also a great fan of "anything pink." Thank you for a chance to win one of your fabulous patterns.

  31. WOW!!!!!I'm almost out of my Patriotic fabric. The reds and blues are full of energy, inviting and of course Patriotic. I can hardly wait to "start" the ' stars". A small (18")Prim table runner could be included with the stars in my quilt, just a few more pieces....

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think design is the key for me. A pattern with stars on it will always catch my eye. Color and the print in a fabric is what makes me want to buy it.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Sometimes a fabric will reach out and grab me and if it feels good in my hands, I end up taking it home. Unless I have a specific goal in mind, patterns grabs me the same way. I particularly like colors that are warm and welcoming or bright enough to bring a ray of sunshine. I love the process from beginning to end. So glad you share with us in deed and creativity.

  34. I LOVE fabric- don't we all? I am very partial to jewel tones and I like a high contrast. No wimpy pastels for me. I like traditional patterns as opposed to modern or arty BUT lately I have done some more modern hexagon/ triangle quilts and I'm loving them! I have done a few of your sew along and loved them. Sewalongs and BOMs are fun as they are very manageable to keep up with and get done.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Lately, I have been buying fabric with a kitchen theme or with words on it. I also enjoy patriotic patterns because of my family military history.

    ReplyDelete
  36. If I see a Civil War fabric that I don't already have in my stash and it happens to be red, I have to get some. I keep telling myself I don't need more fabric because of my huge stash, but new fabric lines just call my name and I just can't help myself - I have to have it. :) I have been a fan of the reproduction fabrics ever since I discovered your PWSC. Thanks for the chance to win one of your awesome patterns.

  37. First of all, your quilts are stunning. I think for me, it's color that pulls me in first, then the design. Im really in trouble when I love the color and design....just get out the plastic and go for it!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I can't exactly explain why some fabrics just call to me. A lot of the time it is the color of the fabric or the design of a print. I am partial to pinks and the combination of red, white and blue. I love small prints. I just know when I see a certain fabric, I need to make something with it!

    ReplyDelete
  39. The look of the quilt block is what draws me in. I loved your Star Spangled Liberty at first look! And there are certain fabric lines that I am automatically in love with (Kansas Troubles). The rich, darker colors draw me in. Sandy55355atgmail.com

  40. I am always attracted to repro or patriotic fabrics and any pattern which contains stars. When I look at my past BOMs and saved patterns, they almost always contain one or both of these.

  41. It's exciting news! The BOM looks like it will be fabulous!
What catches my eye... which leads to a purchase is if I see something that's different. It can be a standard pattern that I see made up in brighter colors or a pattern that has a new twist... but uses traditional fabrics. Just something that I can do to make it my own instead of a duplicate.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Pam, I think that it is always a specific color that reaches out to me, especially red! The deep dark reds not the orange reds. If you put blue and white with red it makes me want to stand up and sing the Star Spangled Banner or at least tap dance to Yankee Doodle Dandy...those colors just make my heart sing. Thanks for the opportunity, love your patterns.

  43. Hi Pam, a pattern or fabric will speak to me. It will be a color or a pattern I really like. Then I have to have it!

  45. Whether it is fabric, a pattern or a BOM, if it is something I like then that draws me to it.

  46. I love all fabric in a range from traditional to modern. The only color that I shy away from is purple and I don't always know how to manage large prints. I allow myself to try new things-it's more fun that way.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I impulse buy fabric because I like it and I have a HUGH stash to prove it. I do buy fabrics for a specific pattern when I am making a special gift or customer order.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I try very hard not to just buy fabric for no real reason. It is so much easier to buy when you know how much of what is needed. I love your type of fabric designs. They are so versatile. I look forward to this BOM just like the miniature I did with you several years ago.
Thank you for the chance to win some of your designs.

  50. I buy fabrics without a particular plan in mind, just because I like them. I've not participated in a BOM. I'm not a fan of monthly shipping costs, my quilting budget is limited.

  51. I am drawn to autumn colors and prints. Sometimes I have to break out for a pastel if I am in a summer frame of mind. Most of the time I buy fabric without a plan in mind, therefore my stash is huge.

  52. TRADITIONAL is the word that draws me to fabric, patterns and BOMs. Through a little red into the mix and I will have to have it. Your new fabrics and patterns are wonderful. Would love to win your giveaway.

  56. I have a nice fabric stash but I've picked it up when I've found great sales. I rarely buy kits so I usually pull from my stash to make a project. 61. My first love is reproduction fabrics. I like to buy entire collections (usually in fat quarter bundles). I love to reproduce antique quilts and try to get just the exact right colors, prints and values for whatever look I'm going for.

  65. For BOMs it has to be the design & fabric combo to grab me right away. For fabric, I look for lines that will compliment the yardage I may already have, I have all my fabric photographed onto my phone, by colorway, so I know what will go with what when I'm at a store or show. Thanks for the chance to win a pattern! :)

  66. Hi, Pam! What a glorious design!!
I love a vintage look in fabrics and patterns. Yours have always attracted me. I buy when I think I will be sorry if I don't. : )

  67. I've got to be honest, it doesn't take much to spurring to get me to buy fabrics or patterns. But I'm really trying to be more cognizant of what I'm purchasing. So now I'm forcing myself to purchase things that will be used in a current project or the next one on my list. Yeah, and I believe in the tooth fairy!! LOVE your new BOM.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Fabric- the colors and price are a big draw for me. I am always looking for stash builders in fabrics and if the price is right, I'll buy it!

Patterns have to be something unusual or new that I haven't seen before. Unless it is a star pattern-those almost always come home with me!

  70. I am such a sucker for the Name of a fabric line or quilt pattern. It has to evoke that old-fashioned feel that I love with quilts. Needless to say--I have lots of your fabric pieces because I just love the names of your collections.

  72. When there's a great sale on fabric and I see fabrics I really like, then I am psyched! I'm like a kid in a candy store! I am attracted to bright and dark colors and traditional small prints. I am on a tight budget, so I need to be aware of what I'm spending, but fabrics are like the paint colors of an artist. You can never have too many, and I'm inspired by all of the colors and prints that I see - so many possibilities! I am currently working on several quilts but there are many more ideas in my head. chocolatewiskers@aol.com

  73. With fabric I'll see something I like they spot a couple of coordinating fabrics then I think it needs a background fabric to go with it...next thing I know I'm buying fabric for a whole quilt (no pattern in mind). With a pattern - lately if it's got a million little pieces or a bazillion HQT I have to have it. I am the impulse buy queen.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Color of fabric really talks to me. I love appliqué with batiks.

    ReplyDelete
  75. If I am making a quilt for myself what inspires me to make a quilt varies a lot. Most of the time it starts with the design but sometimes a fabric I just have to have. The quilt I am making right now is a patriotic plaid quilt with all half square triangles and what inspired me was a mood I wanted to create--a summer cottage quilt.

    ReplyDelete
  76. On sale is my downfall. If it is $5yd, or less, you better get out of my way. I have a lot of CW fabric, my favorite. When I find a fabric that love, but not on sale, I buy what I think I will need and go to my stash to find friends for it to be with in my quilt. That way I can make it be my creation. CW patriotic is really super. I've done a couple and are special. BOM is hard for me to wait so I have hoarded the blocks until about 3/4 way into it. When excited want to get at it. pjkwmo@outlook.com

  77. I love reproduction Civil War era fabrics and quilts. I am typically drawn to traditional piecing. And when I find a pattern with tiny pieces, I cannot resist. The more half square triangles in a quilt, the better! My quilting friends have been known to say "That looks like a Susan quilt." when they see one with lots of small pieces. In fact, I kept paging back through the magazine to drool over Prairie at Heart...and then I ordered the kit to have all the wonderful fabrics for myself. mcm007@sbcglobal.net

  78. I think I buy fabric epecially with flowers and blue tones. But I am also a scrap buyer. There is a shop in town who sells small pieces and normally I can hardly resist to leave without some of those scraps. There I look for backgrounds and fun patterns!

  80. I love your work...but like many others, we are retired. Our income does not go up any more which is sad because our wants still do! And with MS the medical bills are sky high. Good thing I worked for a quilt store and stocked up and have a good stash. When doing a BOM I look for something different...something that I may only have to add 1 or 2 fabrics to. And this is a big one! Are the patterns offered free?

Thanks for listening and all your excellent work! Sue aka auntbee@sbcglobal.net

  81. I am always on the lookout for a perfect red or blue. I think of these as stand alone fabrics, so pretty that they could pull off being the only fabric in a quilt, along with a neutral of course (although I always make scrap quilts). Why I choose a block of the month is a little more elusive, but I guess it's when it hits my heart hard and I cannot stop thinking about it.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I love all fabric; well nearly all - not with fruit or vegetables! I love civil war, 30's, batik etc. The 30's fabric is lovely for summer;all clean and crisp whilst civil war is autumnal and cosy. I do like a BOM because it's like getting a Xmas present every month all year. Last year I did the Lucy Boston patchwork of the crosses - I have never done it before and loved every month!

  83. Reproduction fabrics and traditional quilts and patterns are my favorites! Red, white & blue just tug at my heart. A bom would need to have some of those elements. If I buy a bom, I tend to wait until I have several months worth before I start working on it. Being retired, I'm trying to be more careful and not buying everything I see.

  84. I can walk into a quilt shop and all the sudden, there it is! I see something that "talks to me" and it usually is a traditional fabric. Oh, its so beautiful. 85. Boy, that is an easy question! Hubby & I did a little overnight in Shipshewana, IN and I spotted a new book that I had been wanting which was just put out for sale that day. Heading home and stopping at yet another Quilt shop after thumbing thru the book and falling in love with a certain mini quilt that had "spoken" to my inner self, I found myself in that store looking for fabrics that would make the quilt "my own." By the way, I LOVE your Patriotic Quilt!!!

  86. Red is my favorite color so any red fabric or quilt catches my eye. And with a career Navy husband and a Marine son, anything with the red, white and blue does also. Throw in 30's and Civil War repros and you have my stash. The rest is just filler.

  87. I love doing block of the months, it is always hard to decide which one to do, I had 3 going last year and didnt enjoy them as much so I think now I will stick to one at a time. I am not sure what draws me in, I read a lot of blogs and instagram, sometimes it is just love at first site. This quilt is amazing, I will have to hold off on doing a block of the month so maybe I can do this one. rluedtke@cox.net

  88. Well, first of all, you did entice me to enroll for your patriotic BOM. One of the things that drew me besides the gorgeous fabrics was that some of the blocks look to present a bit of a challenge and I like to keep learning. I am noticing that I am attracted to quilt kits and BOM that will push me a bit out of my comfort zone.
I am trying to cut back on fabric purchases and only buy what I need to finish a project, but then a new line appears and all that resolve just flies out the window. I love reproduction fabrics most of all for my quilts,, but seem to be making more modern looking quilts as I make quilts for family members. I am pleasantly surprised how much I like them when they are finished.

  95. Not sure how to answer that.....It usually grabs me when I see it! Many times it is a novelty, historical fabric with say pics of Abe Lincoln, cannon, CW generals, CW maps. I am also drawn to vintage seasonal prints like valentines with victorian valentines, or easter with vintage chicks, bunnies, etc in the print. This is so hard to describe.....many times they are fabrics that might be considered hard to use, but when the right project presents itself, then I know why I saved it.....just waiting for the stars to align, I guess! :) The perfect fabric for the perfect project!!!! Your BOM quilt looks amazing, just sayin!!!!

  96. For me, it is all about the design and color equally. There are some designs that are simply irresistible when you have just the right colors. I am drawn to warmer colors. If the design/pattern stir up memories of some sort, then it is a done deal for me.

  97. This is a gorgeous BOM...thanks for the fantastic opportunity! You are so talented and I love your patterns and fabrics :) Happy Quilting!

  98. Because I already have many quilt books/patterns to choose from - I've become VERY picky about what I will actually purchase. I really have to LOVE the pattern/book to justify getting it with also commit to myself that I will actually produce something from the pattern. Love your quilts! Thanks for sharing your talent!

  99. Fabric always seems to be random but I have to love it to buy it. I just bought some double gauze because it's so soft and the prints were tiny with tiny animals tucked in around flowers but I also buy bright happy colors. Quilt patterns are bought for different reasons too but, I have to imagine cutting and sewing it. If I know the cutting would be tedious I won't buy it. If the sewing looks like it's too difficult, I'm out. I have been challenged when the fabric comes in for a BOM and I don't like it and/or the pattern was much more a challenge than it appeared in the picture but I chalk that up to learning and the next quilt seems easier.

  100. There are certain fabrics that just lure me in. I love patriotic fabrics, possibly because I grew up as an Air Force brat, they are always saying "Pick Me!". If I am making a quilt for a special someone a piece may jump out and grab me.......

  101. I am drawn to large print fabrics & when I see one that I just love, I will buy a couple of yards of it & then figure out which pattern it will work with & what other fabrics to put with it. Love your new Star Spangled Liberty pattern & would really like to make it.

  102. I have seen a quilt pattern called "Star Spangled Banner" and an antique quilt made in that pattern. I can't wait to compare your pattern to the antique quilt pattern. I love patriotic quilts!

  105. 90% of the fabric I buy is on clearance and since I make mostly scrap quilts, they always come together so nicely!

  106. Color is what draws me to that must have fabric. When looking at BOM patterns I want to see a challenge to my skills and something that is a bit different from normal.

  107. This is exciting!!! I'm loving all those star blocks! :-)
Piecing and quilting (for me) is a way to relax from every day stresses, and also to cozy up my home... so what makes me want a fabric or BOM is how the design and colors make me feel! If it sends a message of happiness, coziness and peace... then I'm going to cut it apart into little pieces and sew it all up into something fun! :-) Oh... and don't forget to nap under it! lol!

  108. Hi Pam. Your new BOM is looking so good! I am a sucker for traditional designs, either very scrappy or in colors that appeal to me. All your quilts have that appeal.

I have only been quilting a few years but am a lifetime seamstress. Many different fabrics mostly cottons go into my projects. Sometimes a fabric tends to catch my eye and I MUST purchase it. I do not always know what the end project will be, but when I really love a fabric I am happy when I see it in any project. Sometimes it is a pattern or kit on display that I think would be fun to make and look good in my home. I love to visit quilt and fabric shops when I travel to get fabric instead of souvenirs . When I use the fabric I remember the trip I acquired it on. The fabric packs well and doesn't break in transport.

  110. This is hard to say, but when I see fabrics or patterns that I like they just seem to jump in my arms. Teee Heee I mostly do primitive colors and patterns. I don't do characters , I mainly do small prints. Love so many of your fabrics, they are my kinda colors. Love reading your posts and I have to say you are one talented gal. Keep up the great job.

  111. Your quilt is looking fabulous! I only recently purchased my EQ7, but so far I love it! I have only scratched the surface of all it has to offer. How long have you used EQ? soardkgatfusedotnet

  112. I buy what seems to pop out for me. Then I decide what pattern to use the fabric in. I like star blocks and scrappy blocks also. Started quilting about 6 yrs ago, ( thanks to the internet for all the help tutorials)& am sooo enjoying it. to me it is relaxation therapy.

  113. I love traditional quilts and patterns. I have a lot of Civil War fabrics in my stash. Your Star Spangled Liberty caught my eye. Just might be ready for another BOM. Love your patterns and fabrics.
What a nice idea to maybe win the pattern!

  114. I'm always on the hunt for interesting small prints that read as a single color from far away., as well as interesting neutrals. I don't really do BOMs too much anymore, but I love a beautiful bed-sized pattern.

  115. Many of my fabric choices are dependent of the recipient of the gift I'm planning for them. However, I've been known to purchase fabric by a designer I love to follow or the colors in a fabric collection. Thanks for a chance in the giveaway.

  116. "Love Worn" was love at first sight! The pattern had a bit of a challenge, didn't look like everything else, had a clear picture of the whole quilt on the front, and the color was just my style! I usually buy fabric for a specific project. With "Love Worn" I bought most of the fabric, but was able to use some of my stash for the small blocks. I really liked that I could use little prints, my favorite fabric, in the quilt. I like BOM's especially when they have a chance for my to share my experience with other quilters through blog posts or a Facebook project page. I would have loved some encouragement while cutting all those little blocks for "Love Worn"! It's nice to share our quilting journey with others!

  117. If it is for myself, I really have to like it a lot. Wether it be fabric BOM or pattern. I may put it off and think about it for a bit, but if I can't get it out of my mind...I will get it. It is usually pastel floral's that hit my gottahaveit button.

  118. The pattern and color of a fabric can easily win me over. Sometimes the historical repros are winners. 'Depends on the occasion. As far as BOMs, well, I do love them all but have to narrow it down to what I can handle/afford, lol. Having been quilting for only about 2 years, I do tend to shy away from designs more complicated such as y-seams. Perhaps in time my fear will go away.

  119. Most all of my quilts are "planned scrappy",so when I see a fabric that would work with my fabric stash, I buy it. I am always on the lookout for shirting fabric and yours are great! They work so nicely in my scrappy quilts so keep coming up with more or them!

  120. I buy fabrics that remind me of people I love. If I can see a project forming just for a some one special it goes in the cart. Otherwise I buy fabrics that make me smile. This is my first visit to your blog, I stayed because of your writing style. Looking forward to seeing your progress on the Star Spangled Liberty. grandstitchesatbrickdotnet

  121. The fabrics shown in a project are what jump out at me and give me that "I gotta do that" thought. I usually change a few things along the way, but still love the fabrics. For block of the month projects....I think it's just an addiction! Unusual design elements draw me in too! I signed up for star spangled Liberty...now I just have to choose between the pieced or appliqué option! Waiting until September/October will be so hard!

  122. Pam your Star Spangled Liberty is wonderful. I feel this question is a bit hard because it can be a number of things like, color, print, design etc. I guess it's more a feeling it gives me, warms my heart, a familiar comfortable I got to have you kind of feeling: ) Jennifer

  123. Beautiful Star Spangled quilt. I find that I am attracted to patterns that will challenge me to learn something new. I especially love paper pieced patterns and piecing patterns using smaller components to make smaller blocks.

  124. Your quilt is going to be awesome!! I don't really need a 'reason' to buy a fabric or pattern but usually it is because I can see it as something a friend or family member would love, and make it with them in mind. So my answer would be its the 'joy' I get in making and gifting. That's my reason. ;-)

  125. Thank you for your giveaway, how exciting, your new project and the chance to win. I start projects that will challenge my abilities and that spring in my eyes. It has to be love at first sigh.

  126. Well, this is a hard question to answer, and be sure I am understood. before i go any further, let me say that your buddy at Kansas Troubles makes me forever grateful for precuts! I have a little piece of every fabric from every line she has designed since the advent of charm squares (and I mean that literally!) As for any other additions to my stash, the main thing that I require lately is that they be a CW reproduction, and that the color or print is something that I need to fill a void in my stash.
