Another Scrap Give-Away!!

We've been cutting a lot of kits and bundles lately, and along with the quilts we made using my latest fabric collection, Old Green Calicos, I've once again acquired a whole lotta scraps!

Time to send them to a good home!

If you'd like to receive a bunch of my fabric scraps, just leave me a comment on my blog!

I'd love to know how you sort, store and use your scraps.  How many scrap quilt projects do you have going right now?  What's the smallest size scrap you save?  Let's talk scraps!!

I'll be collecting your comments until Sunday evening, and on Monday, will post where those scraps are going.

To be fair to everyone, I can only choose from comments left on my blog.  Thanks, everybody, for helping me to make room for more scraps.  Spread the word among your friends.

I've had more than a few people email me wanting information about the bins I'm using for my Half Square Triangles and squares.  I purchased both from JoAnn Fabrics.  The bin on the left is made by Art Bin, which is a brand of organizer they carry all the time.  I don't often see the one with all the dividers, though, so you may need to watch for that one, or check their on-line offernings.

The small bin to the right with the blue dividers, also from JoAnn, is called Snapware.  I've also purchased it at Walmart and Target.  As we all know, scrap quilts are super labor intensive, but oh so glorious.  I find that keeping my scraps sorted by color helps me to quickly find what I'm looking for.

I'm sure interested in reading your scrap organizing ideas!  I'm off to sew blocks for my new BOM, and I'll have a lot of news to share with you all about the BOM on Monday.

Happy Scrapping!

  1. I am not the best scrap organizer so I like to see other ideas. I, however, do love scrappy quilts!

  2. Organizing is not something I am particularly skilled at, but I do have a couple of ways of handling the clutter of scraps. Super tiny scraps go into a plastic bin. I let my little nieces play with them, or dig through myself when I need just a "tiny bit" of something - say for paper piecing. Larger scraps get folded as neatly as possible and go into a drawer in a dresser that I have entirely devoted to fat quarters - not just one drawer - the entire dresser. If the scrap is anywhere close to being a FQ size, then they join the FQ dresser. (If anyone knows I am a potential candidate for winning the scraps of another quilter, I'm afraid they might try scheduling me for some psychiatric evaluations. Especially DH!!)

  3. Love scraps! Sort 2" square or more by color, thirties, civil war, holiday. You get the idea. There is actually an order in my madness

  4. I've been making a few HST from a project when the scraps lend themselves easily. Trying to do it in the moment. I have a small pile in a tray. I like your bins. I think I'll try that.

  5. Oh scraps are my thing! I use Bonnie Hunters scrap user system and I use them! I save everything from 1.5" and up! I just finished some "Ocean Waves" blocks from waste triangles and 2.5" background squares, its awesome! Thanks for the chance, I would so love to win your scraps and put them to use!

  6. I am stacking my scraps in Ikea boxes. 1 box 1 colorscheme and this works really well.

For now I am also working on a thumble quilt with scraps. I am using reds, browns, dark yellow and dark pink on a ecru background. This looks very nice and is really
    a joy to make.

Also I like to do little projects with scraps like pillows, miniquilts and now I am working on an cover for an E-reader. My daughter looked and it and ask me if ik could make a cover for her I-pod.

So as you see it is always big fun to make lovely things with scraps.

    Many greetings

    Inge

  7. I have been purchasing fat quarters when they are on sale ($1 or less) to cut into scraps. I have been cutting them into various sized strips and storing them in plastic bins by size. I really like these storage trays that you have. I like to use them to make small 9-patch, 4-patch or 1/2 square pattern quilts. I can't bear to throw any pieces away so if they're not big enough to stitch together, I put them into a covered jar! Thanks for the chance to win!

  8. I put all my scraps in a little basket by my sewing machine...not organized by size or anything! Very disorganized in fact! I save everything from waste triangles down to the teeniest piece of fabric for hand applique. Right now I am working on a scrappy hourglass quilt to enter into the Heritage Park Festival of Quilts in May.

  9. I have a large canvas laundry bag that I throw all my bits and pieces in, with no thought to organizing at all! When it comes time to make a scrappy quilt, it all gets sewn up and makes for a quilt loaded with personality! Love your scraps! carol in Plenty, SK, canada

  10. I just packed up many of my scraps and smallish yardage to take to our new quilting ministry group. Most are not yet quilters so we're going to need all the donations we can get. I don't have an organization system, just large bins by color for yardage, small bins for fat quarters, and trash bags for scraps.

  11. Extra wides and flannels/minky are in large totes, yardage (2yrds to 1/2 yrd) are on my 'working' shelves, FQs are stored by color in plastic shoe boxes ($ store), specialty and novelty are in a 6 drawer rolling cart, and my favorite 'go-to' are my snack barrels on my old pottery shelf. I keep 1.5", 2", 2.5", 3.5", AND 5" squares - the chop downs of the last bit of fabric. Left over HSTs usually get worked right up into a miniature or doll quilt - so I don't store those. Orphan blocks I put in a mailer box and when full, I ship off to a group I donate to.

  12. Save everything as I piece. Binding leftovers go into a clear vinyl tub; red fabrics have their own. Zip Lock bags for smaller pieces are stored in a box. I've been known to tuck a strip into a larger same fabric and set back on the shelf. My favorites are scrappy quilts so I save unused HST's and trimmed corners. Leftover batt is also saved as I like to make my own potholders. Anonymous Launa P

  13. I love scraps and scrappy quilts! I usually save smaller pieces sorted by color and I put them into zip lock bags. I like to do fusible applique, so I needs lots of background pieces and lots of small stuff. I save anything I think I can get a leaf shape out of up to larger scraps. Your fabric scraps look so pretty and I would love to have them. Thank you for a chance to win!

  14. I love scraps and have been cutting for 2 quilts. I used to store my scraps by color in ziplock bags, but I recently got some plastic shoe boxes that will stack better. Before my DH retired from the military, we moved so often that I kept all my fabric in plastic bins. Now I am converting to folding it in cabinets. I think I have 4 scrap quilts in various stages... just waiting to add to the mix. Would love to add your scraps with mine! Thanks for the fun!

  15. I would LOVE to win some scraps to use from you! Thank you for the chance! I have a large bin... that is sadly it. I can't bear to cut my scraps because I don't know what purpose I am going to use them for, so they stay intact until I decide on a project :o)

  16. I have two bins...darks and light...mediums I throw in with the darks and will sort later. Both bins are low as I just finished some scrap happy quilts so I would LOVE to play with your scraps! What is it about other people's scraps...they are SEW much better than your own!! :o)) Thanks for the chance!

  17. Hi Pam,
I'd love to win your scraps as I, too, am a scrap quilter.

I cut small scraps into 2 or 2.5" squares or strips and sort them as light or dark. Colonial repros are my favorite!!

  18. I love the 14x14 art bin cases with a handle! I keep all of my projects I have started or will be starting in one with the pattern, thread, and fabric for them so everything will be in one place and then I separate my scraps into the same kind of cases sorted by type of fabric. ( Kansas Troubles, 30's, Christmas, civil war, wool, etc.)bigger pieces are separated by type also and stored in bigger plastic tubs with labels. I keep my tiny scraps in a couple zip lock bags by my machine. I need a new plan for them just not sure what it is yet! lol :)

  20. I cute squares as small as 2.5 and strips at 2.5. I save any reasonable pieces in a big bag for "making" new fabric.

  21. I store my scraps in clear plastic bags. Mostly by dark and light colors. And the last break down is by size. I am a scrappy quilter so I say almost every size scrap. Thanks for a chance to add to mine.

  22. Just getting hooked on scrap quilts! Like the idea of sorting by color so that I can get to what I want quickly. Love your divided container idea! Thanks for the giveaway to make more scrappy quilts!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I don't have any special way that I store scraps. I separate by light, medium and dark and then by size. When I get to the end of small pieces, I cut little leftovers into 1" squares for little mini charm quilts. So, if I can get a 1" square out of a scrap I keep it.

  25. oooh count me in! i am a practitioner of bonnie hunter's scrap system, but limit mine to nickels, 2.5" squares, 1.5" squares and 1.5" strips and sometimes 2" squares...anything smaller than 1.5" gets tossed...

  26. I love scraps and scrappy quilts. Right now I am working on a Grandmother's Flower Garden with 2 inch squares in fun Spring colors. I have my scraps in a cute little box from Michaels all sorted by color. It makes me smile just to open the lid and see them all there waiting to be put to good use. Thanks for the chance to win these scraps....they are lovely.

  27. I sort my scraps into drawer organizers by size. I like to cut extra strips from my fabrics and add them to the drawers. When I run low on a certain size I pull out of my stash and cut more strips. 1 1/2", 2", 2 1/2" and 3". I have WAY TOO MANY projects going on right now. My sewing room is a mess. Current projects are my black and neutral leader/ender, a brown string project, and my 365 block quilt in brown and blue. Color, color everywhere. Thanks for the opportunity. I would love, love, love some of your scraps.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I have to admit, all my scraps are bunched together in several large baskets. (Just in case one color lying next to another would inspire yet another good color combination). Neutrals are the least amount, but I am working on that for the future. I have a new pattern to try and your scraps would be greatly appreciated. By the way, the new fabric line is gorgeous! I love greens and blues.

    ReplyDelete
  29. The smallest scrap I save is 1 1/2". I love making 9 patches with that size square. I use containers I bought from JoAnn Fabrics to store my scraps. THey also tend to pile up in different spots in my sewing area. I'm trying to clean up some of those piles now.

    ReplyDelete
  30. My smallest size is 1-1/2", but a project I'm eyeing uses as small as 1-1/4. I have a few of the divided bins like yours with embroidery floss on cards in them. Since counted cross stitch went by the wayside long ago I think it's time to repurpose the bins.

  31. I'd love to win the scraps. I was in a shop recently that had the cutest little square in a square quilt that I would love to make.

  32. Such lovely scraps!
I used to keep small scraps (1-2") in zip lock bags by colour but when they got too full I thought I should clean them out so I donated to a local school art dept for the kids to use.
I'm a bit more ruthless now but I like to keep some scraps from quilts I have made together in a little bag in case the quilt needs repair in the future so I will have a small scrappy stash to mend.
If the scrap is bigger than a ten inch block it stays in the stash.
I'm planning a scrappy clamshell project with blue scraps I have.
Thanks for the lovely give away.

  33. I love scraps. I store my scraps by colour in colour co-ordinated baskets and my fat quarters are sorted by colour in a dresser. Thanks for the chance to win these pretty scraps.

  34. I do try to organize my scraps by color, although sometimes it doesn't always work. I love making scrappy quilts. They are just so cozy and homey. Thanks for sharing.

  35. I just organize my scraps by color. I don't precut them. I love making place mats, dolls quilts, and small quilts for charity.

  36. Wonderful containers. I love scrappy quilts. Just starting my scrap collection. Trying to to sort by size for now in bags. All sizes. At the moment I save some of the dogears, thought maybe trap under netting one day. One scrap quilt now, and plans for allot more. 24Tangent@gmail.com

  37. Your scrap saving system is wonderful. I got my craft bins from Wal-Mart, cheaper than the ones with the handle, but same shape and snap locks. My 2" squares and started projects go in them. So easy to find and keep track of. Thanks for sharing!

  38. Hi, Pam! I cut small scraps into 2" and 1-1/2" squares sorted by light and darks so they are always at the ready (like when I made your Tucker quilt). I keep these in Rubbermaid containers. Applique scraps are in a large basket. I'm currently making 500 3" bowtie blocks (getting close to my goal), 4" orange peel blocks, a tumbler quilt, 4" spools-- I keep each project in Rubbermaid containers -- and add finished blocks as I work on them. Would LOVE to win some of your scraps. Thanks for the opportunity. Eileen P.

  39. I have a hard time throwing away even the smallest of scraps, so anything over one inch square gets saved. I don't really have a good organization system - I've come up with several systems but I don't follow through very well, so now my plan is to just use them up and don't waste time organizing. Your storage is amazing.

  40. Hi Pam,
I haven't been quilting very long, so right now it works for me to save most of my scraps by the project that created them. I seem to know where to look for them better that way. I can imagine that, as my scrap collection grows, I'll need to find another way. I have saved scraps as small as 1 inch squares on up. The boxes in your photos look very useful! I'm not working on a scrap project at the moment but have several patterns waiting for more scraps. Your scraps would really give my scrap collection a much needed boost! Thanks so much!

  41. When I finish a project I cut the remaining fabric up right away..cutting and organizing the Bonnie Hunter way. It is so nice to utilize the pieces in scrappy quilts...and I have lots of cutting done along the way. What an awesome giveaway...thank you!

  42. I love scrap quilts and usually have several going at one time. I cut my leftovers into usable strips and squares and store them in drawers by size. I also keep strings sorted by neutrals, brights and everything else in separate bins. I find that I actually use my scraps when they are organized.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm a long-time quilter who's focused primarily on 2- or 3-color quilts, but recently I've fallen in love with scrappy quilts. I currently have a scrap tub. It's a pretty good sized rub, but I can already tell that it isn't going to work very well for much longer. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  44. I have made hundreds of quilts, all sizes from table mats on up to queen. Nearly all are scrappy. I barely throw any fabric away, with 1-1/2" square being the smallest I use for squares. I have bolts on shelves, some small pieces on comic book boards, and then shoe boxes for each color. I have a separate novelty prints system for I Spy quilts and a third for upcycled men's shirts.

  47. Wow! That picture of the scraps looks like a treasure to me! I cut my scraps down to bricks and squares. The smallest square is 1 1/4. The 2" square is the one I use the most. I have leftover plastic boxes where I keep them. Thank you for sharing these.

  50. I wish I had a better system for organizing scraps. I just pile them in baskets then when I need them I pull out the baskets

  51. My scrap organization is always in flux. I first sorted into bins by color. Then I switched to sort by size, and by color within the sizes. Now I have baskets of CW scraps by designer and a big hodgepodge basket of everything else CW, along with baskets of light, medium and dark for non CW fabric scraps. I also have a batik scrap basket, a Christmas scrap basket, a Fall scrap basket and a patriotic scrap basket. Luckily, no baskets are large, or there wouldn't be room for me in the sewing room. Would love to add to my Pam Buda scraps!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I love your plastic trays and intend on getting some. I, also, like your suggestion to sort scraps according to color. Maybe that will help me straighten out my messy scrap bins.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I have my scraps in small containers all colour co-ordinated, I adore your scraps they would make a tasty addition to add to mine!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I am always short of light scraps so when I saw your potential give away scraps I knew I had to enter. I love making scrap quilts more than any other kind of quilt. I have drawers for 5 inch squares, 1 1/2", 2",2 1/2" strips. I have a "crumb" tub of scraps for small oddball bits. The smallest size I collect would be 1/2" and 3/4" strips for wrap bowls. I also love making zip bags right away from coordinated leftovers however small they may be. My actual scrap basket is quite small so it forces me to cut up and sort scraps regularly. I have also learned that if I take a zip lock bag of scraps to our guild sharing table it is always taken by someone who can see the potential of a small bag of scraps already color sorted. When I want to start a new scrap quilt I just have to open my already cut up drawer of whatever size I need. If I have too much of something I give it away. Thanks for the chance to win more "treasures".

  56. When ever I am cutting out a project, I also cut the scarps into whatever smaller sizes that I can get from the pieces. I have saved quite a few of the throw away containers that store bought cookies, etc come in. They are nice see through containers, stack well & different sizes hold different precut scrapes that I cut. Then when I am looking for a certain color or size, they are ready for me to use. Thanks for sharing...

  57. I cut squares and strips in quite a few sizes from 1inch to 6 inches. I seem to use a lot of use for 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 inch squares. Right now I have at least 6 projects using scraps. Of course a few of those have been "on going" for more than a year!

  58. I have one of those plastic units with 5 drawers, then I filled that and now I have 2 of those, plus I covered some thick cardboard boxes with contact paper and have overflowed into that. I have quite a few scrap projects in progress, love them. I save anything 3/4" or more :)

  60. As I cut, I throw all scraps into a basket on my cutting table. When it gets full- okay, overflowing- then I cut my scraps into squares and store them by size in plastic ice cream buckets. Very cheap and they stack. The smallest scrap I save is 1" squares. I know- tiny! The rest go to the LQS for filler in the dog and cat beds that get made for our local Animal Humane Society. I am working on two small scrap quilts right now- in two different color schemes. That's my scrap story! I love reading your blog!

  63. Oh yes...let's talk scrappy goodness. I only make little quilts and they always have scraps....and always some "Pam" fabric !!! Really : )
I keep my scraps in those plastic rolling carts. Sorted by size and color.
They are labeled on the front of the drawers...one inch red and blue strips, 2-2.5 blue squares...etc. My smallest scraps are 1 inch X 1 inch.
I would LOVE to have some of your lovely scraps re-homed to my little studio. Thank you sew much for a chance to win.

  66. Wow, yummy shirtings! I save 1" squares or larger. Orgaizef NY color except 30s, 1800s and batiks. 1800 coversationals have their own box and scraps ate kept with yardage (real feedsacks and vintage 20-40s fabrics are all together too.) Vintage 1800s fabrics, scraps, etc. are also all together but so far I have not used any of those! I'm working on 3 scrap projects right now.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I have several scrap projects going most of the time. I will keep pieces as small as 1" squares. Some are stored in drawers and others in plastic containers. Organizing definitely needs some tweaking here. :-)

  70. The smallest scraps that I save so far (that I use for quilting) are 1", because that is the smallest that I have needed. Anything smaller than that goes into a card board box and can be used for stuffing of dolls etc later. There is also a gal in my bee that collects them for pet bed stuffing. I typically store my scraps by size in gallon size zip lock baggies and then when I have a project I go to my bags and pull out what I need and then they go into a plastic tub just for that project and in the tub they are organized by color. So far it has worked well, but I also don't have a ton of scraps. I also cut off and save all of my selvages. They can be art in their own right and when I gather enough I look for a project to use them in. I have 2 scrappy quilts going on right now--both block of the month QALs and both with 6" blocks, so I use mostly 1-1/2, 2-1/2 strips and up to 4" square scraps. I did buy some fat quarters to help fill in, but we have to refresh as we go right and well who can pass up fabric. Besides that it keeps the scrap pile alive.
Thank you for such a fun and fabulous giveaway! :)

  88. Love my scraps! I orginize them by colors.

  89. I try to cut my scraps down into useable sizes--1-1/2, 2, and 2-1/2 inch strips and squares. I also usually have a couple of scrap quilts that I'm cutting for--right now I'm working on an I-spy quilt and a Bonnie Hunter pattern using 2 inch squares, so I'm cutting my scraps into sizes for those. I store my scraps in those clear plastic bins sorted by project, and then by size. Looks like some fun scraps--thanks for the chance to win them!

  90. I sort my scraps into baskets and plastic bags to see what´s in.The smallest size scrap I save is 1" square and string 1" with.I have several scraps projects.

  91. I sort my scraps in the plastic shoe bins by color. When they are full I just add another. I have a new scrap quilt I am about to start.

  92. I would love to receive some of your scraps. I save scraps as small as 1 1/2" squares and strips. I just purchased Make it Mini and am looking forward to making your Little Bits. I guess I am going to have to cut some strips into 3/4" strips to make Block 4. Maybe there will be some in your scrappy give-away! I really enjoyed making Tucker.

  94. I am not the best at organizing my scraps. My problem is I can not combine my civil war, with 30's, with brights etc. I keep them all separate. I do a lot of scrappy quilts. My favorite are civil war quilts. Would love to win your scraps. I would put them to good use. Please enter me in your drawing. Thank you, Carol

  95. I separate my scraps by color, in ziplock bags and then all together in a plastic bin. I keep as much as I can because you never know when you can use a small piece for applique or for variety in a scrap quilt.

  96. I decided I needed to simplify my scrap organization because I found I was over thinking my "system" and I found they were totally unorganized because of it. I have a rolling card with a 10 colored drawers (5 colors and 2 of each color. My scraps are separated by sizes I like to use....1 1/2" squares, 2" squares, bricks and so on. One draw gets all the neutrals of a particular size and the other gets all the colored scraps. Then I just grab the drawers that I need and off to the sewing machine I go. Isn't it wonderful that scraps are such prized possessions? It's like a Maxwell House ad...good to the last drop! Thanks for sharing all that you do!

  97. I've made many scrap quilts. I love that I don't need to be concerned about running out of a specific fabric -- just grab something else that looks good in the same color, haha. I save down to 1.5" squares and sort according size: 2", 2.5", 3.5" and 5".

  98. Hi Pam, I sort my scraps by colour and store them in 'honey buckets'- the empty 6 litre buckets we get our honey in! I don't cut them until I have a project to cut for. Thanks for the chance to win your scraps :-) I know I'm international but will be in the US soon!

  99. You are my quilting idol and I would so cherish those scraps! I too save all sizes of scraps in a small Longaberger basket (remember those parties?) next to my sewing machine. The teeny ones I use as leaders for chain piecing and some I use for quilt labels. I also have started a scrappy roll of binding strips, joined and pressed , for just the right quilt . Thanks so much for all of your inspiration !

  100. Oh my goodness!!! I love scraps …those little orphans need sweet loving homes. I went to a retreat last January taking only a tote of 2”squares or smaller. I had the best time playing and designing a little quilt and a pin cushion out of tiny little half square triangles!! The truth is I’m still learning to quilt. So using the scraps work out better for me than cutting my beloved fabrics I am still petting. They also give me lots of practice cutting and sewing that ¼’ seam… I never knew how much fun it could be finding a piece of lost fabric a home among other lost threads. Quilting is truly a passion of art and love. I cut all my scraps into 2” squares or larger stack them into a cute gift box all arranged by colors. They all have special memories from projects I have completed. Thanks Phyyly

  101. I love all the ideas in the comments. Scrap quilts are my favorites. My original idea of storing scraps by color has not been kept up. I need to spend a few days getting some organization back. I save any thing 1.5" or larger and am especially partial to 2.5" scraps. I would love to win some of your scraps. Thanks for the chance.

  102. Love scrap quilts just wished I was as organized as you. Would love to win these scraps.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I save fabrics scraps larger than 1 1/2" separated by colors in x-large zip lock bags. I use some for my appliqué projects (I usually have a couple of those going at the same time) and I'm sewing blocks for 2" Irish Chain postage stamp quilt. I love scrappy quilts. Thanks for the giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  104. For my scrap fabrics I have containers for 2 1/2" squares and the larger sizes are in containers of colour and cremes as I like to keep pieces for applique. If a small strip looks useful for stems etc that gets kept too. Love scrap quilts which at least one a year goes to charity. Happy Stitching.

  105. Wow, what a treat to receive a box of your scraps. I tend to save even the smallest scraps 1x1 or so, these could turn into little appliqe circles, etc. I'm currently working on a Bonnie Hunter scrap pattern in blues and creams. I toss everyting into a few containers until I need a specific color, then I dig.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Love how organized you are! Scraps are so fun to work with....it is so hard to through ANY fabric out, no matter the size.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Hi Pam
I save anything at or bigger than 1.5 inches. Sometimes when cutting I'll cut the rest of the strip up and put in drawer bins labeled all the same size so that I have strips of variety readily available. Working on two scrappy projects now. One will be a long one in the making but I enjoy put zing with it.

  108. Scrap quilts are my favorite. I just finished a 3/4" finished piece in my tiny tumbler quilt made of scrapes.
I don't go much smaller then 1". Mainly 1.5" is best. Thanks for your fun blog.

It took a long time to get them cut appropriately! Now I try to keep up w/them. I have 3 scrap projects going presently :)

  112. Hi Pam!
Just donated my scraps to a church for use in various quilt projects. Starting fresh and nothing like a scrap quilt and making do!!!!!
It is a great challenge! Love to build my scraps on some of yours!!!! Smooches!

  113. I am the scrap queen of my quilt guild. But even before that, scraps were how I began quilting because I could not afford much fabric. I've taught my friends how to use selvages and tiny pieces that are not much bigger than 2 inch squares made into HST's. Even the little trimming pieces I save because one day I want to use them to make a kind of landscape quilt and they will be the backgrounds. I save all my strings, threads and batting pieces and have used them for stuffing and pet beds. I think scrap quilts are my most fun project because that was how quilts really got started...by using up what they had to make into something useful When I was a very small child, mom would sit me down on the floor by her rag drawer and she said I would play happily for quite a while pulling out the pieces and putting them back so guess it is in-born in me to love scraps. A box of scraps from someone to me is like a wonderful treasure chest and I never know what I will find until I open it up. Thanks for sharing yours, Pat.

  114. I make every thing from scraps. I cut 5 inch,3 inch, 2 1/2 inch squares and strips l 1/2 strips. I am sewing circles on 4 1/2 inch square 365 Quilty and sewing my strips to make 6 1/2 inch strips blocks I sew placemats, pot holders,
coasters and wallets and check book covers for all my friends. I store my scraps in plastic boxes by the sizes. I have over the years made you designs. Thank you for sharing would make lots of things for friends if I win. hanks for the chance.

  116. Ooooooooh! How much fun would these be! I love your fabrics and know I could make an awesome quilt out of them! I put my scraps by color in ziploc. Then I have to grab the next piece without looking at it. It forces me to be random!

    ReplyDelete
  117. My scraps could use some new friends! I could use some help in organization, but for now I use the giant shopping bags to sort strips of different sizes down to a 2.5" square. FQs and yardage are stored in big plastic bins. I used to save tiny stuff, but the house was quickly being overtaken by tiny stuff I never touched. Thanks for the opportunity to win!

    ReplyDelete
  118. Oh, these are fabulous! I would love to win these, thank you for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  119. I keep any scrap I can cut into a 2" square. I keep them in a rolling drawer unit, separated according to color family--blues, greens, brown/golds, red/pinks, etc. I do a lot of paper piecing and these small scraps come in very handy! The giveaway fabrics would be useful for so many projects!

    ReplyDelete

  123. This is a wonderful collection of fabrics that would get a good home if my name were drawn! I store my fabric in rather boring utilitarian plastic bins by color, BUT I have the most beautiful antique armoire that houses them ( well most of them) that my husband bought me a couple of years ago! I'm hoping for a second armoire in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I currently have a couple of scrappies on the go - the 365 challenge BOD, a tumbler leader and ender and The Farmers Wife. I sort my scrap pieces by colour in flat plastic scrapbooking boxes and the smallest I save is about 2" - unless I really love it and then I will save every thread!! Thank you for the opportunity to maybe win your scraps!

    ReplyDelete
  125. Thanks, I would love some scraps! I used to sort my scraps into three bins labeled light, medium, and dark, but in the process of converting to a btter system. I am trimming scraps into usable sized strips and squares and sorting them by sze and shape. Once I get all my scraps stash done I will just need to trim scraps after each project.

  127. I love scrap quilts. Most of my quilts are scrap quilts! I have probably a dozen scrap quilt projects on the go. But who's counting! Lol! I store my scraps by color in those plastic drawer organizers. I don't throw any scraps out. I use them all. The crumbs are all stored together in one bin. I cut 1.5 inch squares and strips, 2 inch squares and strips and 2.5 inch squares and strips. The scraps in my bins are fat eighths and smaller. I consider myself a scrappy quilter. That's my style. I like to mix all kinds of fabrics together in my quilts.

    ReplyDelete
  128. I love scrap quilts and selvedge quilts so just about any quilt I make nowadays is made from scraps and selvedges. To be honest, I am soooo obsessed with selvedges and find myself buying fabrics JUST for the selvedge...

My scraps are all stored together in the plastic bags (after the doonas/ sheet sets are taken from them, they are see-through so they are always pretty to look at and when I go to use them, I tip them all out on the sewing table near my machine and start sewing. I tried sorting into colours, widths, sizes, etc but the excitement of sewing with scraps just wasn't the same as diving headlong into a huge pile of mish-mash to find the next colour or size to use !

    ReplyDelete
  129. I love scraps! I buy bags of scraps at quilt shops! Also, I rarely throw a scrap away...I store them in bins according to color. Would love your scraps & would give them a really good home. Thanks for the chance.

  130. You have lovely scraps! I sort mine by color and keep them in plastic bins. Lately I have cut various sizes of squares and store them separately by size.

    ReplyDelete
  131. As I work as small as 1/2" HST, there are no scraps too small. I have them in plastic biscotti jars in different strip width, and squares and triangles are in different containers.

I love scrap quilts and therefore love all scraps. Right now I have them sorted by size, but I plan to go through them and also sort them by color. I even have a pretty big bag of selvages. I also have a big box of scraps to be cut up. I think I am going to pick out a design so that I know what size to cut them.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Hi Pam, I am drooling over your delicious scraps. The smallest usable pieces I keep are 1" square. But I keep every tiny scrap, they go into my thread catcher & then get used to stuff pin cushions along with some dacron stuffing. I store my bits in zip-lock bags by colour, the bags are in a storage box when I am not using them to EPP or piece. The Old Green Calicoes are just divine!

  143. It was very inspiring to read all these comments. I often will purchase scrap bags and end of bolt pieces to provide more variety to my scrap quilts. I cut my small pieces into 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4 and 5 inch squares. and store them in plastic bins by size. Thank you for the opportunity to win some scraps.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I love scraps...It depends on the scraps...I have separated 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5 inch strips and squares just by size and not by color. The rest are in a box that I rummage through as I need.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Currently working on four patch and 9 patch units with 1/2" finished sized squares. This would be perfect. Sure miss seeing you and the rest of the Naperville girls! Hope all is well.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Oh goody, more scraps. Right now I am still audition how to store mine, but my best storage idea (from a fellow quilter) is to use Match Box car cases to store thread. I got mine from Walmart. I like the cases you use for your HSTs. Worth looking into.

    ReplyDelete
  147. I have 3 scrappy quilts going. I save everything down to 1 in. Square. I love the scrappy look. I use ziploc bags for small pieces and drawers sorted by colors. I sew on phone book pages for foundations. I would love to win your scraps. Thank you for the opportunity.

    ReplyDelete
  148. My current scrap project is "Every Little Bit", and the smallest scrap size 1" by 2". I was delighted to find this pattern to use them! My smallest scraps are kept in baskets, and medium sized scraps are kept in plastic bins without much sorting except for size.

    ReplyDelete
  149. I do a lot of applique so I don't cut down my scraps into any specific sizes. I keep larger pieces folded and sorted by colour in a large pantry. Smaller pieces are sorted by colour in shoe box sized plastic containers. The smallest pieces I keep are probably about 1.5" square.

    ReplyDelete
  150. I use scraps all of the time. I have them sorted by color in the large 3 drawer stackers, 10 drawers total. Every year I go through them and sort to make room for new and pass another great scrap bag along to a quilter who doesn't have a large scrap stash. I do piece with my scraps, but I am BIG on applique, so I keep any size if I like the fabric. Now there are a few irreplaceable scraps, and I will keep even the tiniest piece until it is all gone.

    ReplyDelete
  151. I toss my scraps into an old picnic basket beneath my cutting table. When it's full, I cut those scraps up for several ongoing scrap quilts --- 3" bowties, 3" spools, tumblers, apple cores, and little houses. It will probably take 5 years to end up with enough of any of them to make a quilt, but they should be delightfully scrappy by then! I would love to add your scraps to the mix.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Thank you so much for the awesome giveaway. I absolutely love scrappy quilts so, of course I save every piece possible. After a project, I cut the fabric that is left over into what ever I can get from it. I have 11/2 inch squares to 31/2 inch plus strings as small as 1 inch wide. These are kept in plastic containers according to their size. I label them so I know what is in each one. Then I make them into scrappy quilts. I have blocks put together for three quilts now. Anything larger than a quarter yard is folded and placed on a shelf where I can find it if I need a larger piece or a certain color.

    ReplyDelete
  153. I have all my scraps in a plastic tote. I'm going to cut them into squares like most of you ladies. I'm gong to JoAnn's tomorrow. Would love to win your scraps! Thanks for the chance!

  154. Your scraps are making me drool... 8)
I only make scrap quilts, and probably have a dozen projects underway at the moment. I keep strips and squares of 1.5", 2", and 2.5" on hand, and my 365 Challenge blocks are needing 1" strips! And I save every size of scrap - even the dogears, which I add to the stuffing in pincushions. I try never to throw away anything!

  158. I love, love, love scrappy quilts! Bigger scraps I store in wire baskets and dump out and dig through when I am looking for inspiration. Smaller scraps I cut into 1.5 and 2.5 inch strips and store those in small plastic boxes. It is so much fun to put together a scrap quilt!

    ReplyDelete
  159. I make mostly scrappy quilts so I save even the tiniest pieces! I'm not very consistent with sorting them, other than by type (civil war, brights, solids, etc). I make mostly small quilts so could definitely make good use of your scraps! Thanks for the chance to win!

  161. Scrap quilts are my favourite. I keep a bin of strings, bins of 2.5 inch strips sorted by colour, a bin of 5 inch squares and a bin of pieces less that a FQ.

  162. I want your scraps!! I pretty much make all scrap quilts. I save strips by size in clear shoe boxes. I save 1inch up to 5 inches, sorted by color in clear containers similar to yours. As I sew, I keep scraps in a basket and when the basket is full, I cut them up. I keep larger scraps by color in a rolling drawer cart. These arecthe pieces I get into the most. I love organization.

  175. To organize a scrap "collection" takes a few different methods at my house. I have shoe box plastic bins for several colorways with multiple sizes of scraps. Anything less than 1.5 inches is not saved. My current project is the Farmer's Wife 1930's quilt along using lots of my bits and pieces. I'd enjoy some of your scraps to add to the quilt. Thanks for a chance in the giveaway.

  176. I am a fan of scrap projects. I have 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 squares in separate shoe box containers. FQ's (and close sized pieces)are sorted by color on shelves. Everything else is sorted by color in fabric cubes with each cube divided on the diagonal for reproductions/civil war separate from the rest. I just finished a couple of scrappy table runners and have begun a wild and goosey quilt. Love those scraps, thanks for the chance at yours.

  189. Scraps are so much fun. I enjoyed making the Tucker mini quilt with you. I am short on light colored ones so I'd love to win. Thanks for your blog, it's fun to read.

  191. i keep my scraps separated in large drawers per size;i.e., a box of 2"squares and another box of 2" strips. i go from 1.5" to 6" squares. however i do top the strips at 5". i can always cut a square or two from the strips. i had just picked up a couple of the snapware bins and have been putting my 2" and 2.5" squares in them. mine aren't as large as yours so i'll have to look for bigger ones. i would love to receive the bounty of your scraps. i never ever have enough lights. i love fabric from reproductions to current. thanks for the chance to win.

  197. Scrap quilts are my favorite! I sort by size in clear shoeboxes. I save squares from 2"-6", as well as strips from 1 1/2"- 3 1/2". Would love to add your scraps to my collection!

  198. Pam, you are so kind to give away all those little scraps! It is so wonderful to see you doing so well--you are so talented! I keep my scraps separated into squares and strips-- the squares are 2", 2 1/2" and 3" and the strips are 1 1/2", 2" and 2 1/2". Each size has it's own container-- which came in really handy when I did a workshop last week that needed 2 1/2" strips and squares-- they were all cut already!!

  199. I absolutely love scrappy quilts, but I haven't finished accumulating enough in my stash yet!!! I also have no major method for organization. When I retire, I hope to bundle all of those scraps and make lots of quilts!!
