A Bump In The Road To Recovery

Dear Friends,

I was recently admitted into the hospital for emergency surgery.  Third surgery in 15 weeks.  Ugh!  Despite state-of-the-art conditions to guard against staff infection, I was the one in a thousand, rare case who developed a deep and serious infection in my just-replaced hip.   One week in the hospital and I'm now home for recovery......again!  Is this Groundhog Day?

While this event and surgery has really knocked me for a loop, I am grateful it wasn't worse,  that my surgeon and his wonderful nursing staff caught it so quickly, that we have such great hospitals here in Chicagoland, that all my doctors came together with a plan, and I received extraordinary care from the hospital nurses, who are the un-sung angels in health care.

So...here we go again, but a little different this time.  It's gonna take a little longer to snap back from this one, but I'm already doing fairly well.  My husband, son and daughter are taking very good care of me....my biggest blessing of all.

I didn't want you to think I forgot about you!  So...the reason for the short update.

As the old saying goes....this, too, shall pass.

  2. You have my deepest sympathy. What I hate now is that my sewing is way on hold for don't know how long.

  3. Please be very careful and report anything suspicious immediately to your surgeon. You're the second person I know who had this happen, so apparently it isn't an uncommon occurrence. Wishing you a complete recovery with no additional complications.

  24. Staff or Staph, two very different things. In either case I am glad they caught it early and you are on the road to recovery. Just take all those antibiotics as prescribed and don't hesitate to call the doctor if something seems wrong.

  34. I hope that your recovery is uneventful and that your body heals quickly. It's tough on the body having that many surgeries in a short amount of time ~ especially if one knocks you for a loop. Take care of yourself.

  35. Prayers that your recovery is as good as my husbands. We live in Oswego, and he just had the same thing happen with his hip replacement. With home health care and antibiotic infusions all is great. You are right, this too shall pass.
