Plantation Stars ~ Off To Be Quilted

Plantation Stars Quilt by Pam Buda
I'm so, so jazzed that my Plantation Stars quilt top is complete and is ready to be shipped off the my quilter.  Yay!  Love, love, love how it turned out!  I hope you like it, too.
I adore secondary designs in a quilt, and I am so happy that two simple blocks can work together to make such a spectacular design.  Don't you love the circle of small stars surrounding the large ones?

All of our quilts begin here....choosing just the right fabrics.  (This photo shows the true color of the fabrics.)
And, as we piece the quilt, at each stage, it's so exciting to see it come together.  My friend and co-worker, Deb, pieced Plantation Stars for me and did a fantastic job, as I knew she would.
Now, it's off to the quilter for the next phase.  I can hardly wait to see it completed!

I hope the Plantation Stars pattern will be available in October.  And, yes!  There will be a limited number of kits, too.

Also in full production is a new Tokens of the Past pattern called Two Color Classics.  Hint, hint as to what the three quilts will look like!
With the help my dear friend, Karen S., I took my first leap into hand quilting over the weekend.  So far, as you would expect, I'm not that good at it, (no reflection on Karen's tutorial!!) but I'm loving it nonetheless.  There will never be a substitution for hand quilting, in my humble opinion, and while I won't be hand quilting a large quilt like Plantation Stars, some small quilts just need those hand quilted stitches.  I always try to learn a new quilting skill each year.  Last year was hand piecing (totally smitten) and this year, it's hand quilting.

Be well....and keep your needles busy!

  1. What's not to love about blue stars? Very pretty. My new skill this year is hand applique, and it turns out I love it! More to come. Hand quilting is a dream, but I'm not there yet.

  5. Absolutely beautiful quilt--love everything about it: two colors (bet red would be just as beautiful) the stars and the wild geese border--it is just beautiful.

  7. Oh it is so pretty!! After your last post I was so enthralled, I went to the Fat Quarter Shop and ordered as much of your blue as she had, and then went to another place and ordered 2 more!! I can see this against white. I will be waiting for your pattern!

  8. I have been searching for a blue quilt for my daughter and it looks like my search has ended. Absolutely beautiful in it's simplicity.

    What size is it?

  12. It is so pretty, Pam! I really love it! Blue and white is my favorite two color combo.
I think it is such a clever design element the way the setting blocks of little stars appear to create a circle around the larger stars.

  13. I like "hand quilting" and I use the term loosely because I know that my work does not look the way that good hand quilter's work does. Every once in a while I look at a tutorial and say oh that's how it's done and continue with my version of hand quilting. I love the blue. It reminds me of denim

  14. The quilt looks great, Pam. What a clever secondary pattern!

My very first "quilt" was a potholder that I hand quilted the old-fashioned way with the rocking stitch and a frame. It looked pretty good for a first effort, but the air sure was blue from all the cussing I did!

All of the quilts I've made since have been quilted with a stab stitch without a frame. The stitches may not be as pretty on the back as they would be with a rocking stitch, but I'm not planning on entering any shows and I'm actually enjoying the process now. :)

  17. I LoVe this pattern & the lovely blues you used! It's beautiful! I'm a hand quilter but will send out full size tops to be quilted, mostly in simple designs as to not take away from the pattern on front. It's nice to keep busy! 😊
