Christmas Idea from Pinterest

Like you, I scout Pinterest for ideas.  I pin tons of pretty pictures and save a boat load of recipes.  Most photos (and recipes) I'll never really use, but every once in awhile, a photo speaks to me.

I saved this photo for awhile.  I just love everything about it....especially the black case (box) with the red and greens.

Then....I had this idea.....

I have this old typewriter case.  Not too bad on the inside, but it needed some help.

I have a bunch of this paper that looks like old-time newsprint.

I cut it to fit and glued it to inside the lid.

I filled it with greens and berries, and set a framed antique Christmas post card inside.  I made the red fabric Poinsettias years ago....have a bunch of them, and I think they work very nicely.
I purchased the green and red coverlet this year.  I wanted the black case to sit on a riser, so I turned this wood tray over...it was just enough of a lift.  The quilt is Colonial Star, from my Vintage Treasures book, done in green and red instead of blue and white.
It was a perfect fit as I didn't want to bring any light prints into this mix.
I designed the black Santa pillow a few years ago.  It was a freebie pattern for a wool sew-along I participated in....love how it fits in to this vignette.

I don't decorate my entire dining room anymore, but think this gives a festive feel to the room.  Something pretty to look at when anyone passes through.
We won't be having any company over this holiday....you know why.  (Bummer!!)  That's ok....so long as we're all together with our loved ones and friends next year.

Happy decorating and hoping you all stay safe and healthy!  I think we see the light at the end of this dreadful tunnel!!

Be well.....and keep creating!

  3. I’m only doing little vignettes here and there of Christmas decorations similar to yours. Just a small quilt and collection of ornaments and strings of gold or crystal beads, greenery and flowers. Just the two of us celebrating the birth of Christ together this year, but high hopes for family gatherings next year! Merry Christmas to you, Pam!!!

  8. That's so beautiful and wonderful that you didn't have to out and purchase anything for it. I too plan to put up something simple to decorate the season.
