Abigail's Doll Quilt ~ Quilt Archaeology Reveal!!

I couldn't believe my eyes when I found this sweet old quilt!  There are so many things I love about it...the obvious age and wear, the simplicity of the blocks, and the block set.  After careful study, I found that this little quilt was cut from a larger quilt that likely had even more wear, and was no longer acceptable to its owner.  The quilt has a lindsey/woolsey type of backing fabric, and the binding is also very old and worn, leaving me to believe the quilt was cut and made for a child a very, very long time ago.  It's hard to date a quilt made from muslin and a blue polka dot as these fabrics were staples through many decades.

I chose the name for this quilt after I lay one of my old samplers next it.  The linen and thread coloring on the sampler are the same as the quilt, and they look so great together.  You can see the name, Abigail Jones, stitched in the sampler near the bottom.   Thus, the quilt became Abigails Doll Quilt.

In this full view of the quilt, it's easy to see how it was cut, leaving some of the blocks on the side chopped off.

I just love how this very simple block looks so different set on point!

Still, it was a bit tricky to replicate the quilt exactly as it is. As much as I could, I wanted to keep to the original.

Not to worry....I found a way!

I hope you love Abigail's Doll Quilt as much as I do, and I'd like to share her with you!

This Quilt Archaeology will be a little different from those in the past.

The pattern will be a FREE download only from Thursday May 20

Beginning Monday, May 24th, the pattern will be available as a pdf digital download for purchase.  So, be sure to grab it while it's FREE!!  (Details below)  The pattern is a full written pattern, with supply list and directions, so you can make the quilt on your own, and/or follow along with my sew-along beginning Friday, May 28th.

As before, I am happy to include a FREE Abigail's Doll Quilt kit with a qualifying $35 purchase on my website!!  This excludes the cost of shipping.

There's a whole lot of new quilting goodies on my website!!

I have six new patterns....
The Save-All Quilts in three sizes....so easy and fun to make.  And, there are kits for the Mini and the Wall Hanging quilts!!
My super popular Tiny Baskets also has 3 different sizes.

The Folk Art Star pattern is available....and while I don't have any kits left, I do have the super fun blue Folk Art Star print in yardage!  And.....I happen to have one quilt kit left as someone who pre-ordered a kit was unable to take it.  Grab it before it's gone!

Hickory Sticks is ready to for you.....
My newest pattern, Country Roads, features my brand new Country Meadow fabrics.  (Still waiting on my shipment of most of the prints....but the gorgeous light prints are on my website!)

Shop Fat Quarter Bundles and yardage of Folk Art Stars....
10" square precuts, Fat Quarter bundles and yardage of ForeverMore and Primitive Traditions!

I also have two ForeverMore Block of the Month complete kits!!!  I never have those!

I haven't had plaids for some time.  Well, Primitives look so great with plaids I had to do a collection.  The thing about this group is how incredibly soft they are.  Baby soft!  I love the range of colors, and had to have a couple of stripes because I adore using stripes for bias binding.  Primitive Plaids are available in a Fat Quarter bundle and in yardage.  90% of my vintage quilts have plaid fabrics...our quilting ancestors loved them, too!  And they look great in scrappy quilts adding interest and texture.  What's not to love?

There are loads of things you can shop for on my website.  It won't be hard to qualify for a FREE Abigail's Doll Quilt kit.  Just place a $35 order (not including shipping) on my website, and I will automatically pack your kit in with your order.

I will have your order packed and shipped as quickly as I can.  I'm so excited to host another sew-along!

It's so important for me to thank each and every one of you for supporting my little business which allows me to keep doing the things we all love.  I know darn well how many choices you have for quilting goodies, and I SO appreciate your business!!  This little kit and free pattern is a Heartspun thank you for all your orders, emails and social media comments.  Thank you all so very much!!

It has large sashing and border strips of blue. I will need to buy the aged muslin. Looking sew forward to sewing along with you. It has been almost 7 years since taking your class in CA at the Country Loft. Thanks for sharing your treasure. Charlotte
