May Be Your Lucky Day!

My Needle & Thread quilt is back from being quilted and ready for cozy evenings.

I do so L*O*V*E all of the gorgeous colors in the Prairie Dry Goods collection.

Mercantile Nine Patch is also back from being quilted.

So super happy with how Mercantile turned out, too.

As luck would have it, two people were unable to take the quilts they pre-ordered, which may mean that this is YOUR lucky day?!

I have one Needle & Thread quilt kit, and one Mercantile Nine Patch quilt kit available for purchase right now.

Click here to read all the details and order your quilt kit today.

The Needle & Thread, and Mercantile Nine Patch quilt patterns are ready to ship as well.  Click here for patterns.

In the studio......We are processing last weeks orders just as quickly as we can.  Many, many thanks to everyone who placed an order and will be getting my Dear Prudence quilt kit for FREE!

I originally thought I would begin the sew-along this coming Friday, but things here changed in the last month, and I thought I'd better begin Oct 8th instead.  So, that's when we will begin, which is better for many reasons, the chief reason being that you will have received your kit by then.  Very important!

I am piecing the third quilt in the Tokens of the Past~Halloween Spirit pattern.  Oh my gosh....they are so darn cute!  How I love Halloween.  I'll post some sneak peeks very soon.

Believe it or not, I am working on two more fun projects for us to do together.  One this year, and one for the winter next year.  I'm also designing fabrics and quilts for 2022.  I can't believe I just typed 2022.....where is the time going??

In the meantime, keep your needle busy and your heart content.
Be well, my quilting friends.

Dear Prudence ~ Quilt Archaeology Revealed!

Today is the Big Reveal of the quilt I chose for my next Quilt Archaeology event!!  I named this quilt..... Dear Prudence.

I really loved this quilt the moment I found it.  I love the Birds in the Air blocks with the pink background running through them all, and the variety of dark prints that really pop against the pink ground.  The dark inner border gives a frame to the blocks, and a different pink print completes the quilt.  Oh, so vintage!

My Farmer's Daughter fabric collection was the perfect match for Dear Prudence!  I was so jazzed to see what she would look like, and I'm over the moon happy with how this little sweetie turned out.  The quilt size is 18 x 23.

I hope you love Dear Prudence as much as I do.  As with every Quilt Archaeology event, I offer a FREE KIT for this exact quilt with a qualifying order.....and, you can sew along with me in the weeks to come.

Dear Prudence is the largest doll quilt kit I have offered as a FREE thank you with your order.  It also has more fabrics than any other QA project, but I wanted to offer Dear Prudence to you, and YOU'RE WORTH IT!   So, settle somewhere comfy while I tell you all the details.

Starting right now, and through Sunday, September 26th,  place an order totaling $45 or more (not including shipping) on my website for anything you'd like, and you will automatically receive a Dear Prudence kit with your order!!  Nothing to add to your cart.  I'll take care of it all on my end.

My Dear Prudence pattern is a FREE digital download.  Whether you're making the quilt with the FREE kit, or would like to make the quilt using your own fabrics, be sure to download the pattern before Monday, September 27th.  After that, it will be available for a nominal fee.  So, get it while it's FREE!  Click here for the Dear Prudence pattern.

My Dear Prudence Sew-along begins Friday, October 8th right here on my blog.  Be sure to sew-along for some really good sewing hints.  I highly recommend preparing your fabric yardage (before cutting anything!) with spray starch or sizing.  This helps immensely with every step, from cutting to piecing.

Oh, and one more thing.....once you have printed
your Dear Prudence pattern, give it a quick read.

I swear by using Seam Align Glue when piecing the Birds in the Air blocks.  I promise you....you will LOVE this product and won't be able to live without it.

Select a bottle of Seam Align Glue as the first item in your Heartspun Quilts shopping cart, so it arrives along with your quilt kit and other goodies, and you can use it right away as we sew along.  The Dear Prudence pattern will show you how it's used in the making of the blocks.  Find the Seam Align under the Notions tab on my website.  It's only $8 and lasts a long time.

Let me show you all of the new quilting goodies you can choose from at Heartspun Quilts!

All of my Prairie Dry Goods yardage is now in stock!  Fat quarter bundles,  and 10 x 10's, too!

Farmer's Daughter yardage and Fat Quarter bundles are waiting for YOU!
Along with Country Meadow yardage and Fat Quarters....
Don't forget about Primitive Traditions, too!
You can also select 10 x 10 inch precuts.....
And...I have cut up a huge selection of color bank bundles!
What are color bank bundles, you ask?
They're bundles of fat quarters with a selection of prints all in the same color.
What's so great about that?  Well, I find sometimes my stash can use more greens when I am working on an applique project, or I just don't have many pinks because they're few and far between, or I'm working on a brown scrappy quilt, and can use a larger selection of browns.  And, can we ever have enough neutrals or shirtings?  Each bundle has an up-close photo of the exact fabrics you will receive.  I am always making new bundles, so check back often for new color banks.  I have loads of new ones right now.  Click here.

There's a huge selection of patterns to choose from, and my newest patterns,
Needle & Thread...
...Mercantile Nine Patch, and....
...Hands to Work are all waiting for you, too!

Shop patterns, books and notions....there's a whole lot to explore.  It won't be hard to qualify for a FREE Dear Prudence kit.  Just place an order for $45 or more (not including shipping) on my website, and I'll automatically pack your kit with your order!

I will have your order packed and shipped just as soon as I can.  I'm really excited to begin sewing with you!

Remember, the first instruction post for the Dear Prudence sew-along is Friday, October 8th.  It will end Friday, October 29th.

It is so very important for me to thank each and every one of you for supporting my little business.  I know you have many, many choices for quilting goodies and I appreciate each and every order, email and social media comment.  This free pattern and kit is my way of thanking you for allowing me to keep creating the things we love.  So...a big heartfelt THANK YOU to you all!!!

Let's get ready for our new sew-along.  Click here to go shopping!

Please follow me on Instagram and Facebook to see behind the scenes photos that you don't see here on my blog.  Let's keep in touch!

Keep your needle busy and your heart content.  Be well, my friends.

Fabric Inspirations

When I'm on the hunt for antique fabric, you never know where you'll find inspiration.  I found this sweet, little bonnet sitting in a pile of junk.

It's very small, and like the tag says, likely made for a doll or teddy bear.

It has seen better days.  It has stains, holes, and is badly faded on one side, but I saw a lot of potential in this print.  It's simple, but the motif and the two different sets of dots offered a lot of possibilities!

Here is the same print in six different colorways!  I love each and every one of them.  Truth be told, it would look cute in every color!

Gotta have some for your stash?  I hope so.  Head over to your favorite quilt shop to see all of the prints in my brand new Prairie Dry Goods fabric collection.  It's an amazing collection with forty four wonderful prints in a wide variety of colors!

Please, quilting friends.....support your local quilt shop!  I always ask that you buy your quilting goodies from your local shop before ordering from me online.  They need your business so they are there for us for years to come.

I though you might like to see how some of my fabric prints come to be.  That little bonnet is a treasure unto itself.  It was hand stitched as you can see, and well loved.  Just wonderful.

Keep your needle busy and your heart content......Be well.

Cheddar & Coal Quilt Kit PRE-ORDER!!

I'm so jazzed to introduce you to Cheddar & Coal....my newest collection for Marcus Fabrics!

There are nine cheddar prints.....
Eight assorted black prints.....

And seven assorted light prints.

I had a whole lotta fun designing quilts with this fabric.  Walnut Hollow (above) is the the only large quilt made with Cheddar & Coal.  It features two very similar star blocks, each made with Flying Geese and a Cat's Cradle unit.  The great thing about the blocks is that you can make the Cat's Cradle unit larger and trim to perfection!!  Who doesn't LOVE that?!!  The Tucker Trimmer 1 ruler is required for this project, and I have step by step photos, and a video reference, that will walk you through this super easy technique.  You'll be so happy with this technique, you'll never want to make another Cat's Cradle the old-fashioned way again!

Walnut Hollow measures 63 x 72 and uses all of the fabrics in the Cheddar & Coal collection.

The awesome stripe is the sashing print in Walnut Hollow, the two cheddars are inner borders, and the black print at the right is the pretty outer border.

Midnight Flight quilt in Tokens of the Past~Halloween Spirit pattern
Designed by Pam Buda ~ Heartspun Quilts
I couldn't stop designing with this collection.  Introducing three small quilts in my new Tokens of the Past~Halloween Spirit pattern!  Midnight Flight is in the photo above.

This is the print I chose for the background and border in Midnight Flight, and the blocks are made from all of the cheddar prints.  Don't you love the motion the Flying Geese blocks give to the quilt?!

Boo!! quilt in the Tokens of the Past ~ Halloween Spirit
Designed by Pam Buda~Heartspun Quilts

Boo!! is the quilt above.  It uses all of the prints in the Cheddar & Coal collection, and just sparkles with the shades of all of those prints.

These are the border fabrics I chose for Boo!!

Halloween Spirit quilt in the Tokens of the Past~Halloween Spirits pattern
Designed by Pam Buda~Heartspun Quilts
Halloween Spirit is the third quilt in the new Tokens pattern.  It uses all of the cheddars in the collection. I adore the stripe print and wanted to miter the border which I think looks awesome!  I give you step by step instructions on how to miter a border, which isn't as hard as you may think.  But, if the mitered border looks scary to you, you can always do a traditional border and it will be wonderful.

These are the other prints used in the quilt.  The cheddar on the bottom photographed as a yellow, but is really a lovely Halloween orange.  (See photo at the top of the blog post.)

One of the great things about this trio of quilts is that the scrappy units in the three quilts are made from a 10 x 10 precut!!!  That also makes the kit for all three quilts very affordable.  Love that!

The Midnight Flight and Boo!! quilts each measure 22 x 22, and Halloween Spirits quilt measures 20 x 20.  All three quilts are included in the Tokens of the Past ~ Halloween Spirit pattern....and it's FREE when ordering the quilt kit trio!

You must place your pre-order for Walnut Hollow and/or Tokens of the Past~Halloween Spirit quilt trio through September 13th.  I won't have any extra kits available as I only kit what is pre-ordered.  So, you have until September 13th to think about it.  A $50 deposit guarantees your quilt(s).

I expect to ship the kits late in October.  Fabric is due to ship from Marcus (if on time depending on arrival in NYC) in early October.  Given time to cut the kits, package and ship, I expect later in October.

Click here to read kit details and order your kits.

I can't thank you all enough for your continued support of Heartspun Quilts.  You all keep me going by supporting my little business and I appreciate it more than words can say.

Keep you needle busy and your heart content.  And, above all, be well and stay safe my friends!

NEW Big Book of Quilt to Finish Quilts!

Hello, dear quilting friends!

Martingale's brand new book, The Big Book of Quilt to Finish Quilts, has finally been released and is landing at your local quilt shop any day now.  Chock full of, as the title says, quick and wonderful quilt projects for your piecing pleasure.

I am honored to have two quilts in this book.  The first is my Windy Hill Farm quilt (photo above,) featuring nine patches and pinwheels.  I worked in a few make-do blocks, which I love, and you can, too!

The second quilt in the book is called Stillwater Creek, with Ohio Stars and Flying Geese.

Honestly.....you won't be disappointed in this book at all as there are so many good projects in there.  I've already chosen one to do in Halloween colors.  Easy, peasy!

Please look and ask for this book at your LQS next time you visit.

In The Studio......I haven't been posting too much because I've been keeping busy with things I can't talk about just yet.  But, believe me....I'm working on some really fun stuff!

My Needle & Thread quilt is finished and being photographed for the cover.  My Mercantile Nine Patch quilt is being quilted.  Both turned out so well, I am super happy with them.  With all those wonderful prints and colors from the Prairie Dry Goods line, both quilts just sparkle and shine!

No sooner I finished with those two beauties, I am fast at work making four quilts using my next line called Cheddar & Coal.  I'll be sharing news about all the fabrics and projects very soon from that new line.

And, I've chosen my next two Quilt Archaeology projects!!  Fun stuff planned for later this year.

Well, I'd better get back to work in the studio if I want to show you all this good stuff soon.  Keep your needle busy and your heart content, my friends.  Be well......
