Gone to Washington, D.C.!

I'm the only member of my family who hasn't been to our nation's capitol, and this week, I'm righting that wrong!  I'm spending the week with my hubby in Washington D.C., Baltimore, Anapolis, Alexandria, and who knows where else the road will take us!

On Tuesday morning, one of the highlights of my trip will be spent with the Docent of the quilt collection at the Smithsonian Museum.  She will be taking a small group of us behind the scenes to see and learn more about the quilts, the collection, and I think where they're housed, etc.  I can hardly wait!

I won't be blogging this week while I'm gone, but will be posting to my Facebook  pages.

If you have any recommendations of what to visit, where to eat while in the area, or other favorite haunts, I'd love to hear from you.  I probably won't be making too many quilt shop stops as we just don't have the time, but...well...ya never know!

I'll share my trip when I get back.

  1. I love it there! I used to live in PA and have been there many times. You must try and go south of D.C. and visit the Mount Vernon estate of George Washington if you have time! It's about 30-35-minutes south along the Potomac...a beautiful drive. I can see why George Washington loved it there so much! I hope you have a wonderful trip!

  2. Never been there myself, although my sister lived in Alexandria for years.I look forward to seeing your photos. Now I'm going to go sew the rows of Nabby's Dowry together.

  4. I'm certain you will truly love the city and the Smithsonian Bldgs. We've been there many times, the last for four days this past June. The Metro is the way to get around... convenient and inexpensive. The Corcoran Gallery of the DAR just a short walk from the White House has always had wonderful old historic quilts on display. You could call first. Your husband would most likely enjoy the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum too. All the Smithsonian buildings have fascinating displays. It's interesting to note the money was willed to start all this by a man from England who had never been in America!
On your way in from the West, you might come close to Jinny Beyer's studio. When in Annapolis, I never miss Cottonseed Glory! Wonderful shop. Have a great time.
