Can't Believe It's Me in AP&Q Magazine!!!

Quilt in the photo is Scraps from Home bonus project in
Journey One of The Prairie Women's Sewing Circle club.
I am still in disbelief over having been chosen to be featured in a profile article in American Patchwork & Quilting magazine!!  But here it is...it's finally out, and I am humbled and grateful for this wonderful adventure!

My profile article appears in the December, 2015 issue which is arriving now in your mail box, your local quilt shop, and newsstands everywhere.

Several members of the American Patchwork & Quilting magazine staff came to visit us the week following the July 4th holiday, and did we ever have fun!  Oh...just a little stress when a national magazine comes to photograph your home!!  But, they took all the worries away, and we all enjoyed every moment.

I was also blessed to design a special quilt just for this issue, and it's called Prairie At Heart.  The name says it all for me, and you can read lots more about what inspires me, and see lots of pictures of my home and sewing room.

Prairie At Heart was inspired by an amazing nineteenth century antique quilt that just caught my eye for it's powerful pizzazz, and patchwork simplicity.  One glorious, yet easy-to-piece block, with loads of shirtings and dark prints, set on diagonal point against a sweet navy blue print fabric, just really jazzed me!!    I hope you love it, too!!

The pattern for Prairie At Heart is, of course, found in the pages of this, the December, 2015 issue. Also in this issue is a web link to see even more photos of my home!

Kits are available, with exactly the same fabrics I used,
all from my Antique Cotton fabric collection for Marcus Fabrics.

Click here to order a kit, and bring a little Prairie into your home.

I'll share more photos of my home, and some behind-the-scenes pictures of the photo shoot in my next blog post!!  I also invite you to click on over to the Marcus Fabrics blog, where you'll see a few pictures you won't see here.

And...I'll have a BIG GIVE-AWAY next week, so watch my blog for news!!  So exciting!!

Sending out the biggest THANK YOU to all the amazing and oh-so-talented women working at American Patchwork & Quilting magazine.  You're a joy to work with each and every time I am lucky enough to do so!!!

Introducing my Love Worn Quilt!!!

Love Worn quilt by Pam Buda ~ Heartspun Quilts
Featuring Antique Cotton fabrics for Marcus Fabrics
Meet my newest quilt called Love Worn!

Love Worn is a quilt I designed showing my twist on a very classic type of traditional quilt that uses a beautiful variety of light shirtings and classic dark prints without being framed with a dark focal border.  There are tons of antique quilt examples just like this that were made without focal borders, and are among the most treasured, used, and Love Worn quilts around.

I designed a collection of fabrics that would accurately represent the types of fabrics I've typically seen in these old quilts, and Love Worn was made using those fabrics.  All are from my Antique Cotton fabric collection for Marcus Fabrics.

Simple patchwork blocks fill the center of the quilt accented with Sawtooth Stars that sparkle within the sashing.  Striking pieced borders bring a WOW factor to the traditional center.  Don't be put off by the pieced borders!!  If you can sew Half Square Triangles and Connector Corners, you will have no problem piecing the borders, and my directions and graphics will break it all down every step of the way!  The quilt size is 78" x 93".

Love Worn

My sample yardage of my next fabric collection, Antique Cotton arrived, and we've been busy sewing and sewing several new quilts.  Here's a little peek at some of the blocks for the feature quilt called Love Worn.  I'm so jazzed about how the quilt is coming along and can't wait to share the finished quilt with you all.

There's been a lot happening here behind the scenes....exciting stuff I can't talk about just yet, but fun things keeping me busy so that, in time, these projects will hopefully inspire you! Watch for several new quilt projects coming in two different magazines all before the year end.  And...I'm still trying to fit in another Pocket Patchwork Sew Along before the end of the year as well.  Whew....better get back to work!

Find some time to make yourself happy....go and stitch!!!

For The Love of Antique Cotton

There's just something about antique cotton that makes my heart sing.

It's ultra soft.  I love the crinkle of well washed cotton.

It feels so lived-in and cozy.
These gorgeous quilts full of scraps were likely utilitarian, put to daily use.  When they were made, they may not have won ribbons at the County Fair, or grace the bed for a guest, but that's alright with me because they were love worn.

These quilts, and others like them, were the inspiration for my newest fabric collection, called Antique Cotton, for Marcus Fabrics.  The prints I chose are small, little calicoes and shirtings I found in many of my antique quilts.  The big quilt I am making from this collection were inspired by these quilts without focal borders.  The prints, and the block and quilt design are the focus!

There are prints in seven colors and a wide variety of shirtings.  I had a lot of fun playing with the colors in the shirtings, and matching them with different combinations of the darker prints.
It's a great mix and match line, and will certain be fun to add to your stash and scrap quilts.

My sample yardage is on its way, so I took photos (and you know me, can't take a good photo to save my life, so I'm sorry they're not better!) of the strike-offs I have.  Fear not!!  Click here to see the entire Antique Cotton collection.  Here are the prints....

Click here to visit the Marcus Fabrics blog and see more photos of my antique quilt inspirations and lots of other good stuff.

P.S.  My next Prairie Gathering Quilt of the Quarter blog will post Monday, June 22nd.
