It's always a thrill to design new blocks, play with fabrics and layouts, and have your design chosen as one of the 100 blocks for this unique magazine!  This issue, Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Volume 7 is just full of great blocks I know you'll want to play with!!

I made this block using fabrics from my very first fabric line,
Heart of the Prairie for Marcus Fabrics.

The angles within the block create an interesting secondary pattern.

I'm in the last week of market preparations.  Patterns are being printed, folded, and stuffed.  Brochures are being assembled.  Binding is being stitched and completed.    Today, I'm going to set up my booth in the basement and decide what goodies I want to take for decoration.  Then, it will be time to pack and load!  

Because of the help of my dear friends, I'm in good shape, and the stress level has been knocked down many notches!  Where would I be without my family and girlfriends?  Parish the thought!  My heartfelt thanks and undying gratitude to my family, especially my daughter Nicki, who helped starch tons of fabric, and has stuffed thousands of patterns.....and to my girlfriends Lynn M, Debbie Mc, Ronda, and Sherry..for their hours of skillful stitching help and great company!

This is an exciting time for all quilters.  Quilt Market brings the creative forces of our industry together under one roof for a mind-blowing show.  It's wonderful to see all of the new products, fabrics, and projects that will soon make their appearance at your local quilt shop.  I'm always so jazzed to be able to see all of the quilts in person ~ there's just nothing like Quilt Market. And...one of the best parts for me is that I get to see many quilting friends again!  It's our yearly reunion.  There's always the bonus of making new friends, too!

There are so many opportunities for you to come along to Quilt Market with us by following your favorite bloggers.  I will be doing my best to post from market, so...please stay tuned, and thank you for taking a few moments to visit with me today, too!

I've been full of anticipation waiting for the big reveal of my block,

hoping you'll like it!  So without further ado, here's.........

Heartwarming (block # 450 on page 48) is constructed with easy piecing units!

The four corner units, called Corner Square Triangles, are a favorite of mine, and they do

wonderful things to a block and your quilt, with all those showy angles.  The center of the block is made from Half-Square triangles, and Flying Geese.  Add in Half-Quarter Square triangles and a few Connector Corners and you've made Heartwarming!

I thought perhaps you'd like to see what Heartwarming looks like in other fabrics.

The sample above features several prints from my brand new fabric line, Heart of the Prairie!

It's my very first fabric collection with Marcus Brothers fabrics!!

Heart of the Prairie features Indigo blues, soft pinks, and a splash of greens. 

The prints I chose for the collection were just like what the Prairie Women in the 1800's would have chosen, to make their simple dresses, a shirt for their husband,

a daughter's dress, or window curtain.

Most of the light print backgrounds feature a new finish I call "Prairie Dirty", giving the feel of

comfort that comes with use, and the gentle aged patina of soft wear,

as nothing stayed white and clean on the Prairie!

Good Time Charlie  (block # 262 on page 56) may look harder to piece that it really is.  The four corner units are very simple to make and the angles of the Half Square Triangles will help to create a fun secondary design as you'll see in the quilt below.  The center of the block is a simple square-in-a-square made with the wonderful and versatile connector corner.  The center units with the larger blue print can be pieced with a template or you can use the Tri-Recs ruler (from EZ Quilting) as I did.  Once the Tri-Recs unit is made, you just add two pink connector corners.  That's it! 

I thought perhaps you would like to see what Good Time Charlie looks like in other fabrics.

Instructions to make the quilt are as follows:

*Create (16) Good Time Charlie blocks from the directions given in Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks by Today's Top Designers ~ Vol 3 magazine.

*From 3/4 yard of background fabric ~ Cut (2) 12 1/2" x WOF strips ~ subcut (40) 12 1/2" x 2" sashing strips.

*From a Fat Eighth of red fabric ~ Cut (25) 2" x 2" squares for cornerposts.

*From 1 1/4 yards of border print ~ Cut (7) 5 1/2" x WOF strips.

I look forward to this twice-a-year event because it's soooo fun. 

We all have our favorite quilt blocks, to be sure, and most of the time, we make quilts using traditional blocks.....but, every now and then it's great to break away from tradition and try our hand at something new.  Well.....this is the magazine that will inspire you to do just that! 

I am very pleased and honored to say that I have an original block included in this magazine!  It's fun to doodle and play with fabrics and block possibilities until you discover just the perfect combination that creates something fun and new.  My block will be revealed to you on May 3rd!
