Rachel & Sarah

Rachel's Tribute BOM ~ by Pam Buda for Marcus Fabrics
My 2020 BOM, called Rachel's Tribute is just beginning.  The fabric collection is arriving at your local quilt shop now.  Any and all shops have the fabric collection, not just shops doing the BOM.  I have to say....this is one of my favorite collections.  True, I do love them all, but I've made three quilts from this collection, and never tire of the sweet, little prints.

The quilt above was designed to honor the lovely traditional red & green quilts made in the mid-nineteenth century.  Many were appliqued, and many were pieced like this one.  To truly replicate those traditional red & green quilts, I designed only one background print for this line.  Unusual to do that, but you understand why.
Take a closer look at the Rachel's Tribute prints.
The prints are designed to work in any quilt, any time.  To blend well with scrappy quilts or work in a theme, like Christmas.  They're just really good nineteenth century prints!

I wanted to use the Rachel's Tribute fabrics in a totally different way from the BOM quilt and Sarah's Dowry is the quilt I designed.  It's fun...it's scrappy....it's lively!

It's not too late to join the BOM fun and sign up to make my Rachel's Tribute quilt!  Look for a participating quilt shop near you!

Do you wish for more tonal backgounds? Shirtings?  Bubble gum pinks?  Neutral grays and taupes?

Tell me what fabric you crave!

I'll choose a random winner on Friday.

To be fair to everyone, you must post a comment to my blog as email entries are not allowed.

Can't wait to hear what you fabrics you're wishing for!

Rachel's Tribute BOM ~ Quilting

My new Block of the Month, Rachel's Tribute, made her debut at quilt market last week.  I thought I'd show you the drop dead beautiful quilting my friend Val Krueger (Las Vegas, NV) put into my quilt.

I designed this quilt to replicate and honor the many, many green & red quilts that were so popular in the 1850's.  Often those quilts were appliqued, but many were pieced like Rachel.
I kept the lighting in the room low as it makes the quilting easier to see.  Val did a truly spectacular job!
This quilt has tons of space to show off beautiful quilting.  Yours will, too!
There's just one light print in the collection to replicate the look of the muslin used in the vintage quilts.  The light print isn't a solid like muslin.  It has a very soft print making the color even yummier.   There are also nine new red prints and nine new green prints.  You can see the entire collection here.

Rachel's Tribute begins next March, and is only available from a participating quilt shop, so ask for Rachel's Tribute at your local shop!  They want to know what you're interested in!

Big, big thanks to Val Krueger for putting all that beautiful quilting into Rachel.  Love your creativity and talents, Val!

Meet Rachel

Rachel's Tribute 2020 Block of the Month.  Designed by Pam Buda for Marcus Fabrics
Sweet Rachel is finally making her debut!

It's 1849 and Rachel, a 20 year old woman, is making this quilt as a surprise for her parents 25th wedding anniversary.  Rachel works as a teacher teaching young girls embroidery as they work their stitches on samplers.  She saved her pennies here and there to buy the needed fabric for the quilt.  Rachel works on this special quilt whenever she can, keeping it secret from her parents so she can surprise them on their big day.

Join the fun as you stitch Rachel's Tribute to her parents for yourself!   The quilt design was inspired by the many green and red quilts of the mid-nineteenth century.  It features just one lovely background print that gives the look of muslin but is much softer to the eye.  There are 9 different red prints and 9 different green prints, all designed especially for this quilt.  Each one cuter than the next!  Click here to see Rachel's Tribute fabrics.

As it is with so many of my quilt designs, this quilt looks harder to piece than it really is!  The feathered star is made with modern cutting and piecing techniques with no set-in seams.  No special rulers or tools are required.  The pieced setting triangles carry the red and green prints to the quilt edge with a chevron border giving a pretty frame to the quilt.

Rachel's Tribute Block of the Month will be available only from participating quilt shops.  The nine month program begins in March, 2020 and will end in December.   Fabrics will be available in February, 2020.

I hope you love Rachel's Tribute as much as I do.  I have thoroughly enjoyed designing the quilt and all the fabrics that make it shine!  Rachel is being quilted right now, so watch for more photos to come.

Rachel's Tribute will be in the Marcus Fabrics booth at quilt market, so if you're attending, please stop by to see it in person.

It's wonderful to finally share Rachel with you.  I sincerely hope you like her and sign up to participate with your local shop.  So...next time you pop into the quilt shop, ask for Rachel's Tribute when you're there.

Off to stitch a new quilt....Village Square...coming soon!
