Monday's With Marcus II ~ Dolores Smith of Timeworn Toolbox

 Another Monday, funday!!!!  Today, we are spotlighting fellow Marcus Fabrics designer....

....Dolores Smith!  Her company name is Timeworn Toolbox and the fabric she designs is uniquely her own in her soft, muted palettes.  Gorgeous!!  Please visit her at Homestead Hearth (the quilt shop she co-owns with Sarah Maxwell) to download her sweet Simplify pillow pattern.

This week, I'm continuing to piece my new Primitive Traditions quilt.  I'm enjoying the piecing, and loving how it's coming out.  Can't wait until I can layout all the blocks.....we all love that part. 

I'm also working on piecing two more little quilts using my Tiny Baskets block....so there will be three quilts in the pattern - not just one!  I so adore that block that I haven't been able to stop making them!  Teehee....

The next fabric line after Primitive Traditions is called Country Meadow, and my sample fabric has arrived.  I can't wait to show it to you!  If you'd like a sneak peek of Country Meadow, click here.

Primitive Traditions Quilt Collection Pre-Orders!!!

 It won't be too long now until my Primitive Traditions, Folk Art Stars and Primitive Plaids fabric collections arrive in quilt shops everywhere!  We've waited so long!

Primitive Traditions Quilt ~ Designed by Pam Buda

Primitive Traditions is my feature quilt for this collection.  It's a beauty with how the black fabrics offset the colors and make them just POP!  

I'll bet you're saying it looks very difficult to piece.  WRONG!  The units in the blocks are made larger and trimmed down...honest!  

For this block, there are Half Square Triangles (trimmed to size), Flying Geese and the kite unit in the corners of the block.

Intimidated by the kite unit?

Don't be....it's made larger and trimmed with a really cool ruler.

I'll bet the pieced Pinwheel block worries you, too.  Nope...not a problem.

You know the Half Squares are trimmed.  But, what about those Shaded Four Patch units.  

Hard to piece?  Not a chance....

Make the unit on the top.....and it becomes

two Shaded Four Patch units!!  Easy...I promise!

Primitive Traditions is made using three rulers: Bloc-Loc for Half Square Triangles, Tucker Trimmer I for Shaded Four Patch, and Corner Beam for Kite unit.

See....I told you....you can do this!

Hickory Sticks Quilt ~ Designed by Pam Buda

Hickory Sticks is the easiest of the four quilts I designed using the Primitive Traditions fabric collection.  

The block center is full of the Folk Art Star fabrics in every color!

The stars are surrounded by the Primitive Traditions fabrics, creating a Window Pane block made from strip sets.  Fun to piece and pretty quick, too!

Folk Art Stars Quilt ~ Designed by Pam Buda

My Folk Art Stars quilt was designed to really feature the Folk Art Stars prints.  Stars, stars everywhere!  Love it!  

The Ohio Star block (a favorite) is made of the Primitive Traditions fabrics, and has a fussy cut Folk Art Star in the center of each block.  

Framed by black, green and red sashings and borders adding lots of color, and finished with the blue Folk Art star print.  Just love it!  

Last but not least is Tiny Baskets.

Oh, I have wanted to make this quilt for a very long time....and now it's here!  

Using only the Primitive Traditions prints, this scrappy quilt makes my heart sing.   Why?

...because every block is cuter and irresistible when tiny!  

And, this basket block is just the cutest! 

With all of the fabric collections coming soon to your local quilt shop, please, please ask for the fabrics and the four quilt patterns there first.  I always want you to support your LQS!

I thought you would enjoy seeing this photo sent to me by JoAnne Shull.  She originally made my little 10 inch quilt, Tess of the d'Urbervilles, found in my first book Vintage Patchwork.  Then, JoAnne wanted to super size Tess to make a quilt for her daughter for Christmas.  Notice the 10 inch mini Tess in the cute wire hanger and the big version on the chair....hubby hiding underneath ;-)  JoAnne followed the directions in the book and used much larger Half Square Triangles.  So fun!  Thanks for sharing the photo with all of us, JoAnne.  And a shout out to her LQS, Olde City Quilts, for the beautiful quilting on the lap size quilt.

I designed a sweet doll quilt for my project, called Back In Time, and it's available in two colorways.  

First up is Back In Time done in a lovely red floral, with a really gorgeous light print background, and an historic repro blue.....which is one of my absolute favorite prints from my ForeverMore fabric collection.

Second is Back In time featuring the same blue historic repro print, paired with a pretty neutral tonal print background, and another of my favorite prints from ForeverMore, the black chain flower print!!  They look so, so great together!   

I have a limited amount of kits for both versions of my Back In Time doll quilts.

This is the wall hanging quilt.  Quilt size is approximately 28 x 33.

Primitive Traditions Quilt Collection

 

Introducing the new collection of quilt designs 

featuring Primitive Traditions, Folk Art Stars and 

Prairie Plaids fabrics!

Primitive Traditions ~ Designed by Pam Buda

This quilt is the collection namesake, Primitive Traditions.  I know it may look very hard, but in fact it won't be as hard as it looks.  Almost all of the units can be made larger and trimmed down.  It uses 2 Deb Tucker trimming rulers.  And, I will be making a technique video showing exactly how to use the rulers, and make these blocks!

I love the secondary, circular design the kite units create, and the Folk Art Stars fabrics are fussy cut in the center of the pieced Friendship Star blocks.  For me, black border quilts are among the most striking, stunning quilts as the black fabric just makes all of the other colors pop!

Folk Art Stars ~ Designed by Pam Buda

Next up....Folk Art Stars quilt.  This quilt also features fussy cut centers of the Folk Art Stars fabric collection, and all of the prints from the Primitive Traditions fabrics, but isn't as much work as the Primitive Traditions quilt.  Ohio Star blocks are framed with black sashing and finished with the blue Folk Art Stars border.  

Hickory Sticks ~ Designed by Pam Buda

Next is Hickory Sticks....the easiest of the large quilts.  The Folk Art Stars print is in the center of each block with no fussy cut stars.  The blocks begin from strip sets, so easy peasy!  Again...a stunning black border makes the rest of the colors really stand out.

Tiny Baskets ~ Designed by Pam Buda

I have been wanting to make this quilt for a long time.  If you're like me and LOVE making small blocks, you will really enjoy making this quilt.  My Tiny Baskets quilt measures 16 x 20 - a small quilt to be sure!  

Patriotic Folk Art Stars Table Topper ~ Designed by Pam Buda

I wanted to design a very simple table topper that showcased the Folk Art Stars prints.

This is the patriotic version.  The Folk Art Stars Topper patterns will be available at your LQS and HeartspunQuilts.com as a free, downloadable pattern.  Kits will be available for pre-order.  Here are the other holiday versions of the topper design.

All of the quilt images shown here are Electric Quilt images and appear much darker than they will really be in person.  Here is a photo of the Folk Art Stars prints.....

You can see they are not as dark as the EQ images make them appear.  

The Primitive Traditions cottons, the Folk Art Star cottons and the Primitive Plaid wovens will be arriving at your LQS and at Heartspun Quilts late March, 2021.  Please.....ask for them at your LQS and always buy first from your favorite quilt shop.  They need us all to support them and keep them in business!  

If your shop doesn't have these fabrics, they will be available on my website.  Very soon, I will be taking pre-orders for the Primitive Traditions, Folk Art Stars, Hickory Sticks and Tiny Baskets quilts.  If you're interested, you must pre-order your kit with a small deposit.  I will only order fabric for the pre-ordered kits, so think about it.  I'll write a blog post, send a newsletter, and post on social media when I have all of the final details and can begin taking pre-orders. 

The Folk Art Star Table Toppers will also be available for pre-order.  

I encourage you to follow me on Facebook and Instagram as I will be posting photos of my progress while making the quilts.  There's so much more good quilting stuff coming this year, not only from me, but from Marcus Fabrics, too!
