Happy Independence Day America!

 

Creating patriotic quilts is one of my favorite things to do.  Seems I want to make every patriotic quilt, cross stitch and wool project I see.  Wishful thinking, I know.  If you love patriotic projects like I do, I'm hoping my America quilt above tugs at your heart.

My America quilt is featured in the current issue of Primitive Quilts and Project magazine, Summer, 2022 issue.

The America and stars appliques are super easy as I did them with wool.  The quilt is all pieced and measures 20 x 29 inches.  Pick up your copy at your local quilt shop or favorite newsstand before they're gone!

From the Heart ~ Part Two

 The week has flown by and we're all one week closer to spring....and that's a very good thing!  I stare at a sea of white as we're still snow covered here in Chicagoland.  Typical for February, but my seasonal radar is longing for the change to spring.  It won't be long now!

By now, you have all  of your Cat's Cradle blocks complete, so our next step is to make the Firefly  units.  

Follow along in the pattern directions to piece a Half Square Triangle to a square.

Sew (2) units together to make the block.

With the units for the Old Maid's Puzzle block complete, we can begin assembly of the Old Maid block.

Sew a Cat's Cradle block and a Firefly block together.  

Sew (2) units together to make the Old Maid's Puzzle block.  Make a total of (6) blocks.

You're all done for this week.....unless....you want to sew ahead to have your quilt top done before Valentine's Day on Monday.  Your choice.  I leave my Valentine decor up though the month of February, and I like working on future V-Day projects all month, too, so I don't mind if everything isn't complete by the 14th.  Enjoy the process and the project!

Primitive Quilts and Projects ~ Fall 2015 Issue!

I'm very blessed to say that I am one of the lucky designers to have a project in one of my favorite magazines....Primitive Quilts and Projects,  Fall 2015 issue!

I love a sampler quilt, and in this quilt called Simply Charming, I combined two of my loves...sampler blocks and stars!   Each sawtooth star block has a different sampler block in the center for some very fun piecing!  

Notice how your eyes are dancing around the quilt?  Do you find yourself looking at the centers of each star, and all the warm, lovely colors and prints in the fabrics?  You and I can thank my pal Lynne Hagmeier of Kansas Troubles Quilters for the beautiful fabrics as I used a bunch of KT charm squares to make everything but the last border in the quilt.  Fun with color play, stars, and sampler blocks....you'll no doubt have a lot of fun piecing this quilt for yourself!

Introducing Star Strings in Primitive Quilts Magazine!

The new issue of Primitive Quilts magazine is ready and I'm so jazzed to have a quilt in the Spring 2013 issue!!  

Here's my quilt called Star Strings.....

As you can see, there are "strings" in the center of each star.  This is a stash buster, and easy breezy with a paper piecing template.  

Having such a wide variety of fabrics really make these stars twinkle!  (I just had to say it...forgive me...teehee!!)

Pick up a copy of the Spring issue of Primitive Quilts magazine at your local quilt shop.  They will begin arriving there next week.  Each issue is always loaded with wonderful folk art & primitive quilts.
