Back From Primitives of the Midwest

Boy ~ having some time away from home to submerge myself in all things quilting, along with dozens of other kindred spirits sure does a girl a world of good!

Primitives of the Midwest was exactly the super fun and inspiring event I knew it would be!

Quilter's Station shop owner, Rita Briner, and all the shop girls did a fantastic job of hosting the event.  We stayed, and had our classes all in one hotel, which made it very convenient.
Quilter's from as far away as California, Florida, New Jersey, and Canada (and all points in between) attended.
Some brought their machines on the airplane with them, and some borrowed machines.  As you can see, nothing stopped them from coming!
Both quilts are Starry, Starry Nines from Tokens of the Past: Nine Patch Reverie

I had just the best time with my fellow quilters as we talked shop, favorite quilting tools, favorite quilt shops, and shared hints and tips with each other.  Always the best day when I get to spend time with other quilters!

Quilter's Station Quilt Shop was a mere 5 minute drive from the hotel.  Dare I say, most of us went there every day!
Just in case we missed something we HAD TO HAVE!
Or....if someone bought something, then showed it off, and you discovered you just needed that, too!
As you can see ~ there's loads and loads of inspiration everywhere.  Everything you'd need for quilting and wool loving are in this shop!
Trust me...these few photos don't begin to do the shop justice.  It's amazing!

I was completely stunned to see two and a half aisles of my fabric in the shop!  It kinda choked me up, to tell the truth, to see it all so beautifully displayed.

So...if you're looking for Heartspun Quilts fabric....you know exactly where to go and whom to call!!! Quilter's Station. (We have to continue to support our quilt shops!!)  Be sure to add Quilter's Station to your Bucket List as a shop not to miss!  I promise, you won't be disappointed!!

Hubby and I went to Kansas City for the weekend.  We discovered several really fun places and I'll share those with you in my next post.

In the meantime....spend some time with needle and thread...and Be Well!

Merrily Sewing Along

Camp Independence (left) and Honor & Glory quilt (right) designed by Pam Buda
I am a happy quilter!  I am sewing and sewing everyday on a new, top secret project that will last the entire month of July.  (I am bursting to tell you all about it but I just can't for now. UGH...its hard to keep mum about it!)  It's been raining here a lot lately which makes for a cozy atmosphere for sewing.

I am so enjoying my patriotic vignettes, and the quilts in the photo above just make me happy. I love them together and I get to enjoy them while stitching in the family room each evening. These little pleasures in life are so wonderful!

Before I know it, it will be time to head to Missouri to join other national teachers in the very last.....

Primitives of the Midwest

Hosted by Rita Briner and her staff at one of the most awesome quilt shops in the United States, Quilter's Station, this is a not-to-be-missed event.  Rita really knows how to throw a party and this last POTM will be one to remember!

This is a great chance to take classes from...

Barb & Alma of Blackbird Designs
Carrie Nelson of Miss Rosie's Quilt Co
Shawn Williams of Threads That Bind
Norma Whaley of Timeless Traditions
Dawn Shuck of Sew Cherished
Sandra McKee of 1894 Cottonwood House
Lori Kabat of Lily Anna Stitches
and yours truly.

That's a pretty great line-up, if you ask me!!   Primitives of the Midwest begins August 16th.

Click here for all the details and to see all the projects.

It's going to be a wonderful event, in a great location, with fun instructors and quilters.

Join the fun!!!

Watch for my next Quilting Essentials post all about achieving an accurate 1/4 seam coming this weekend!

I'm Teaching at Primitives Of The Midwest!

My thanks to everyone for your comments.  It was very fun and interesting to read about favorite events held at your local shops.  Some are very inventive and creative and you can certainly see why they're a favorite.

Five random comments were chosen to receive a complimentary Autumn On Maple Lake patterns.

They are.....

Robin.......My favorite LQS has a once monthly sit and sew. It is open to all, just bring a project you want to work on or if you are having a problem with a block or a section in a class the owners are more than happy to assist. The best part about this lovely shop is it is within walking distance of my home!

Linda......Fantastic colors and perfect pattern! My LQS hosts a BOM where for a minimal investment we receive 2 "starter" fabrics (this year is 10" x 12") and a pattern for a quilt block. We watch the demo and go home to add our own fabrics to make a 12" block. Everyone's quilt is different as the only requirements are that each of the starter fabrics must be in the block and that there are as many pieces in the block as the pattern has - no cutting a 3" square if the pattern calls for HST! It is a great learning experience as we increase our skills over the year with progressively more challenging patterns as well as learn about color, value and texture while creating unique blocks.

Esther....Fall is my most favorite season and your quilt is absolutely gorgeous. Would love the pattern and fabric! I am very fortunate to have my LQS just a few miles from my home. The owners are great ladies and always coming up with fun things to do. To name just a few: once a month we have sample (block) club and today I'm going to "Sit & Stitch". They make the coffee/tea and we sit, stitching away and chatting, too! Great fun with a wonderful bunch of quilting buddies. Thank you, Pam, for all you do and share in the quilting world!

Bonnie....beautiful pattern and fabrics, Pam. being Canadian, I am partial to Maple Leaves. I would love to win a copy of this pattern. Thanks for sharing.

Gloria....Such a beautiful quilt! Thanks for the giveaway! Loving Stitches, my LQS, is fantastic! This past year their tech/repairman held a class on machine maintenance and troubleshooting. I am so glad I took advantage of it. Invaluable!

Please email your mailing address to me at Pam@HeartspunQuilts.com and I'll have your pattern in the mail for you!

Primitives of the Midwest & Quilter's Station Quilt Shop

Quilter's Station Quilt Shop, located in Lee's Summit, just outside of Kansas City, MO, is not only a top-notch shop, but is home to the infamous Primitives of the Midwest quilting retreat.

Attending Primitives of the Midwest has been on my quilting bucket list for years and years.  I never thought I'd be teaching there!  Primitives is held for five days and has from 6 to 17 nationally known designers teaching classes.  I would love to show you the projects we offered, but they're all designed exclusively for Primitives, at least until the event is over.  Gotta attend to get them!

This year, Barb Adams & Alma Allen of Blackbird Designs opened the event with a casual lecture/trunk show of their fabulous and inspiring work.  Teaching workshops were Lori Kabat of Lilly Anne Stitches, Maggie Bonanomi of Butternut House, Shawn Williams of Thread That Bind, Victoria Ingalls, and myself.  You won't be surprised if I say there were many happy quilters making some really beautiful things from cottons and wools!!

Shop owner, Rita Briner, a designer in her own right, is the creative force for the shop and Primitives of the Midwest.  Rita has impeccable taste for Prims and Folk Art, not to mention energy from I don't know where, and seemingly never stops creating.

You will most definitely find Quilter's Station inspiring, too!

Aisles and aisles of wonderful fabrics....my favorite aisle....RED!!

From just about every fabric company out there, with loads of Marcus fabrics!

Doesn't Rita have great displays??  I want it all!!

Watch the Quilter's Station website in the spring for the announcement on next summer's Primitives of the Midwest.  You never know which of your favorite prim and folk art teachers will be offering classes.  If this event isn't on your bucket list, it should be!!

From Primitives, I traveled to one of my most favorite places on the planet!   I'll tell ya all about it in my next post!

It's getting much closer to the beginning of our Friends & Companions Sew-Along!  Just a few more weeks!  I wanted to remind you to save the date.  You can buy a kit from Homestead Hearth Quilt Shop or Red Crinoline Quilts,  or gather your own fabrics, and sew-along with not only Marcus designers, but Lisa and Pati from the Marcus home office.

Patchwork Garden Quilt Shop Visit

Add caption
My pal, Lynne Hagmeier (Kansas Troubles Quilters) and I just returned from a wonderful visit to  Patchwork Garden Quilt Shop in East Amherst, NY.  Lynne and I both taught one full day class, a half day class, and each gave an evening lecture/trunk show.  Staying for several days really gave us time to get to know shop owners Joan & Beverly, as well as the many quilters we met at the events.  What a treat!

Here's a peek at the shop itself.....

Shop owner Joan Rogers ~ Patchwork Garden Quilt Shop
As you can see, the shop is light and airy.  Wonderful displays of every kind of fabric your heart desires await you!

They have a hefty selection of Civil War reproductions, and have ordered all of my fabric collections as well as others from Marcus Fabrics to name a few!

The shop is located in an old home that Joan and Bev revamped and restored, and twice added additions.  They've done an outstanding job!

Look at all that lovely fabric!  And great lighting!!  Every kind of fabric, Batiks, homespuns, flannels, novelty, and holidays are found in beautiful displays through out the shop.

Including one of my all-time favorites....Kansas Troubles fabrics!!

Our classes were too large to be held at the shop and were held nearby at a building called "The Barn".   The barn is at a wonderful location surrounded by well tended woods where we were visited by many types of birds, a few turtles, frogs and best of all, two young fawns who romped playfully nearby.  The barn has a very large indoor room......

.....and a super large covered outdoor patio.  The weather permitted us to use both spaces!  It was lovely to have the doors and windows open.

Settler's Puzzle was my day-long class.

Always so cool to see all the different versions of the same quilt!  I have a few to share with you and hope you enjoy the wide variety of fabrics.

I am so fortunate to be able to work spending the day with quilters.  They're the best and the ladies Lynne and I met were extraordinary!  Our thanks to everyone who attended our classes and for the warm welcome all of you extended to us.  It was a visit we won't soon forget!!

More about my visit to Patchwork Garden in my next post!

If you like the projects I taught and want to experience the fun the ladies at Patchwork Garden had, please consider joining the fun when I teach at the (infamous!) Primitives of the Midwest event hosted by Quilter's Station Quilt Shop in Lee's Summit, MO.

Primitives of the Midwest will begin next week, July 9th, with a kick off event hosted by none other than Blackbird Designs' Barb Adams and Alma Allen!!!  Workshops begin July 10th with a host of good folk art classes offered by the creators themselves.  Treat yourself to this very special event hosted by Quilter's Station shop owner Rita Briner, a designer in her own right. (Quilter's Station is a fabulous shop featured in Quilt Sampler, too!!)

Join me on Thursday, July 10th for my
Settler's Puzzle workshop.

And Friday, July 11th for my Tin Pinkeep workshop.

You'll be so happy you came to Primitives of the Midwest!!
