Introducing Tokens of the Past: Nine Patch Reverie!!

I love when something I've been working on is finally ready for the big reveal!!  I'm so, so pleased to announce the introduction of my newest Tokens of the Past pattern, called Nine Patch Reverie!!  I'm lovin' me a Nine Patch block, and I've been thinking about this pattern for awhile.  

While I love a simple, traditional Nine Patch quilt, there's a lot of plain, classic patterns out there, and you certainly don't need another.  I set out to design three quilts, all using Nine Patch blocks, all different from one another, and different from what's already been done.  I hope you like them!!

One important thing you need to know is there are larger, alternate sizes for each quilt included in the pattern.  

If you're a regular reader of my blog, you know I love tiny, little blocks. Aborable little blocks. Downright irresistible little blocks.....to me, that is.  No so for everyone, and I totally get that, so I did the math to include at least one larger size quilt for each of the three in this pattern.  Read on....  

Four Around Nine in the Tokens: Nine Patch Reverie pattern by Pam Buda ~ Heartspun Quilts

First up is Four Around Nine.  Simple Nines surrounded by simple Four Patches.  The Nine Patches are front and center, framed by a lovely red print border.  

The size of the finished block in this, the smallest one, is 4 inches, with the quilt measuring 22" x 26".  The larger, alternate size has a finished block of 6 inches, with the quilt measuring 34" x 40".

Second is Starry, Starry Nines.  I am madly in love with this quilt.  Double Nine patch blocks create this fun center "grid" where Sawtooth Stars with more Nine Patches float, surrounded by a fun to piece sawtooth border.  Scrappy, too!!  Love, love.

The size of the finished block in this one is 4 1/2 (which means those Nine Patches are 1 1/2), with the quilt measuring 23" x 29".  Now, because of that Sawtooth border....the math just didn't work for any other size except to double the size of the blocks, which of course doubled the size of the quilt.  So, the next largest size has blocks finishing to 9 inches, with the quilt measuring 51" x 64".  A yummy lap/throw size.

Here you can see them both together.  Isn't it fun to see?!!  They were a whole lotta fun to piece.

Lastly, I give you Nines In Blue.  This collection of different Nine Patches play with the light and blue fabric to make this cutie pahtooty little quilt!  I had some fun with alternates for this quilt, and I'll show you what I mean in a moment.

The size of the finished block, for this the smallest quilt, is 1 1/2 inches, with the quilt measuring 18" x 20".  Soooo little, and sooo cute!

Here's a photo of just what I mean about playing with this design.  The quilt at the right is the same Nines In Blue quilt, double the size, and with the light fabric replacing the blue background, and I changed the squares to all scrappy darks.  Kinda fun...what do you think??  

The quilt to the right is the next larger size, with finished blocks measuring 3 inches, and the quilt measuring 34 1/2" x 39".  There is yet another, largest size for Nines In Blue with a block size of 4 1/2, with the quilt measuring 23" x 29".

Market Prep In Full Gear

Hi Everyone!!  

Gee, I've missed writing to you, but there hasn't been much to say of interest while I've been getting everything ready for quilt market, which is next week!!  AAHHH!!!  My friend Deb and I have been cutting what seems like a million scraps for five new quilts, and we've been keeping our friend, Ronda, very busy quilting them all.  Lots of cutting, sewing and quilting, but oh...the quilts are just turning out great!  I'm so excited.

All five quilts are for my newest Tokens of the Past pattern called Nine Patch Reverie.  I've been wanting to create this pattern for a few years now, and finally, the time is right!  It's been worth the wait.  

There's still so much to do to get ready, but I really wanted to sit and touch base with all of you before any more time got away.  I can show you a few sneak peek pictures of the three quilts, but don't want to announce the pattern showing the full quilts until all five are here and ready. That will likely be early next week....so please, stay tuned.  

Here's a little bit about Tokens: Nine Patch Reverie.......

There are three new quilt designs.  All use our favorite, classic block....the Nine Patch.  All three quilt designs can be made using larger pieces, making larger blocks, and quilts!!  Some have three alternate sizes!!!  All included in one new, wonderful pattern.

Nine Patch Reverie is not linked to a 10" precut.  You pick and choose all your own fabrics.

The first quilt is called Nines in Blue.  There are directions to make this quilt is two colorways and three different sizes!

The second quilt is called Starry, Starry Nines.    Super scrappy and several fun to piece blocks with a great border.  This quilt comes in two sizes....a wall hanging and a throw.

The third quilt is called Four Around Nine where the Nine Patch center is surrounded by Four Patch blocks.  You can make this quilt in two sizes as a wall hanging.  

My to-do list just seems to keep growing, so I'd better get back to work.  I hope you don't give up on me.  New goodies are coming!  New fabric collections, new quilts, and yes...a new kind of sew-along.  I'll catch my breath one of these days.  I'll be back here soon....and I sure hope you're finding some time to stitch.   I'm just doing a whole lotta math!!

Progress....sometimes it comes quickly, and sometimes it just seems to take soooo long.  It always seems to take so much longer when you're in a hurry, don't you think??

The Tokens: Spice Box patterns are nearly complete.  I'm just crossing the T's and dotting the I's on the pattern, and then it will be sent to the printer.  That feels like good progress, too.

Last week, I decided to move ahead on a pattern idea I've been ruminating over for quite some time now.  It's another Tokens of the Past pattern, with all of the quilts featuring one of my favorite blocks....the classic Nine Patch.  Now, there are loads of wonderful Nine Patch quilt patterns out there already, and I aim to do something different, but still traditional, and I hope you'll like what's coming.  I'll be posting sneak peeks on Instagram and Facebook, so you might like to watch for those posts.  I'll be posting one later today.  Really excited about these Nine's!!

Right now, I am in the process of making scrappy log cabin blocks for a quilt. Sew, my box of scraps is quite low. How did I organize them, you asked. I DIDN'T ! Everything less than 2 1/2 inches was just thrown in a box. It worked for me but was a mess.

Love the churn dash block and the way you made it scrappy. Very creative.

I organize my scraps in tubs just as you do by color. Sometimes I cut 1 1/2" strips for strip quilts of various shapes. I saw your quilt in the magazine last night before I got to my email today. I love it......

I have a clear, plastic shoe holder (2 shoes fit in each pocket) hanging over the back of my sewing room door. I am able to tuck scraps in each of those pockets, sorting by color. When I need scraps or something for applique I need only check out what's in those pockets. When the pockets start to get full I pull them out and just assemble scrappy nine patches, four patches or string piece. Everything is there right in front of you to see! The scrappier the quilt the better ... I especially love those that have pieces of cotton shirtings stuck in here and there. Regardless of whether I win or not (though I would REALLY like to win one of the blocks) I plan to make this quilt ... LOVE the use of so many different fabrics in this classic block!

I love your new quilt. I will be looking out for the magazine. I sort my scraps in containers similar to yours. I have 2 sets of containers. One set for squares and one for long strips. Each set is sorted by colour. It means a lot of containers but it makes scrap quilting so much quicker.

Introducing Tokens of the Past: Spice Box Pattern Trio

I'm so, so jazzed to be able to finally show you the three new quilts included in my newest Tokens of the Past pattern, the second in the series, called Spice Box.

I took the name from one of my favorite pieces of Treenware...this 'ol Spice Box.  Inside, there are seven cylindrical containers, all for different spices.  I just love it.

I just had to name the pattern after something in my Treeware collection.  After all, the quilts are all made from my newest fabric line, Treenware & Berries, for Marcus Fabrics!!

Just as before, all of the units and blocks for all three quilts can be made from just one Treenware & Berries 10 inch precut!!

Christmas Count Down

I can hardly believe how quickly 15 days went by!  Wasn't the Primitive Christmas Blog Hop fun??!!  I thoroughly enjoyed it, and sure hope you did, too!!  If you visited Stacy West's Buttermilk Basin blog you also learned that she decided to host several more of these wonderful soirees this coming year!  YAY!!  Exciting stuff.

Tokens of the Past: Gathering In Red Special Offer!!

Gotta love simple patchwork like the Checkerboard blocks that make up the center of this quilt.  Had to add the star block border....who doesn't love stars anyway?  They're always a welcome addition to any quilt, and I named it Checkerboard Stars.  Why call it anything else?

This quilt measures 24" x 24".

I wanted to feature that pretty medium red fabric, and put is smack dab in the center of the star block for this quilt, and it seems to radiate in a burst of color from the center star.  And, so I named this quilt, Starburst.  This quilt measures 24" x 24".  

I wanted a simple table runner that had a lot of movement to it, and this quilt, simply called, Friendship Stars, certainly has that.  The full range of creams and reds are perfectly set off by the deepest red border for a stunning presentation.  This quilt measures 22" x 16".  

The Prairie Gathering precut features forty 10" x 10" squares, two each of twenty prints I selected myself.  Look for the Prairie Gathering precut at your local shop in February, 2015!

Houston Quilt Market

Attending Fall Market in Houston was a wonderful, relaxing experience.  Because I didn't have a booth, I was able to spend five days submerging myself in all things quilting and had time for visiting with friends I don't often get to see.

  I loved seeing Judie's Album quilt in person.  As with all quilts, of course, they're so much better in person than a photo.  I have long admired this quilt when I first saw it on the cover of Judie's book, and signed up to do the BOM.  My kits will come in 2015, but who knows what year I'll end up making it!  No matter....it will be there whenever I'm ready.  Do you do that too, or am I the only one?? LOL

Always have to stop and see Kathy Cardiff of The Cottage at Cardiff Farms.  Her wool designs really speak to me.  They say 'buy me, make me!"  

Geez..there's so many goodies to choose from, but I must admit.....

...that get me every time!!  Both of Kathy's pinkeep books came home with me!

Annemarie Yohnk of Quilts Remembered always, always has quilts that touch my heart.

This red and cream quilt stopped me dead in my tracks!  The pattern is called Abigail and I fell madly in love.  (Are you giggling over the "No Photos Please" sign?  I had Annemarie's permission, I promise!)  

Kansas Troubles Quilters booth

No visit to market would ever be complete without stopping at my pal Lynne Hagmeier's (Kansas Troubles Quilters) booth.  

We all got our first look at Lynne's newest fabric collection, Clara's Garden.  Clara was Lynne's great, great-grandmother, and she has quite a story.  Click here to learn more about Clara and Lynne's fabric line.

Lynne never fails to WOW me with how many different quilts she creates from her 'layered patchwork' technique.  Isn't this just awesome??  

 One of my favorite quilts to see at Market was Di Ford's mystery quilt for Quiltmania magazine.  

 It was just jaw dropping-ly beautiful!!!

I was thrilled that Di chose to use so many of my fabrics in her quilt, and as I stood there, I got goosies just looking at them.  Actually, there are many, many Marcus fabrics in her quilt, including fabrics from Judie Rothermel, Paula Barnes, and Molly B's.  

 Every market has a large exhibit of quilts.  I usually don't have time to peruse them as I'm always in the booth, but this time, I had time to wander.  

As you can imagine, this exhibit was a show stopper.  

Much like the Infinite Variety show in New York City a few years ago, this display of red and white quilts had everyone talking.  What is it about red and white quilts that draws us all so much?  They're vibrant, striking, colorful, and happy.... but maybe that's just me?  Do you like red and white quilts, too?  Perhaps you're working on a collection of your own?

May I suggest a few new red quilts for your collection?

Shameless, I know, but you can't blame a girl for trying!  I hope you found a few things in these market pictures that are speaking to you.
