Market Day Sew~along / Part Six

We meet once again for another installment of.....As The Sew~Along Turns.

OK...I deserve an eye-roll over that.  I won't quit my day job.  Here's the next bunch of blocks.

Remember, the cutting instructions for the smaller size blocks will be listed in red.

Cutting Instructions
From light print #2:
    *Cut (2) 3 7/8" ( 2 3/8") squares.

From blue print #2:
    *Cut (2) 3 7/8" ( 2 3/8") squares.

Make Half Square Triangles in the same manner as before by drawing a diagonal line on the wrong side of the (2) light print #2 squares.  Pair with a blue square and sew 1/4" on each side of the drawn line.  Cut apart and press to the blue triangle.

Make (4) Half Square Triangles measuring 3 1/2" (2") unfinished.

That wasn't too bad, now was it?  We're making progress.....hope you're having fun!

I have loads and loads of hints, tips and tricks about everything from fabric preparation, to accurate 1/4 inch seams, to making perfect Half Square Triangles, Quarter Square Triangles, Flying Geese, pressing tips, quilt labels and tons more....all packed into my........

All good basic stuff about the things we do everyday in our piecing adventure.  Click here to read more about it!

On another note, I feel like I'm "missing in action" regarding blogging lately.  I have been working long, long hours 7 days a week on the biggest project of my career thus far.  I have a deadline I must make and it's approaching fast.  Believe me, I want to share my quilt market pictures, and the news about this big project with you, and I will....as soon as I find an hour to spare.  I haven't forgotten about all of you and hope you'll hang in there with me just a little longer.

Once I can sit down and start sharing, you may not be able to shut me up!!  Until then, I hope you enjoy the weekend and the sew-along blocks.

P.S.  I am giving sneak peeks of the new project and fabrics on Facebook and Instagram!!

In Honor Of Those Who Serve!

My deepest thanks with a full heart of gratitude for all of the men and women who have served, and are now serving our country, both at home, and abroad.

A special "thank you" to the families who stay at home missing their loved ones, and who keep the home fires burning. I honor your sacrifice as well.

God Bless America!

Introducing Waltzing Leaves!!

At long last, the single pattern for my Waltzing Leaves quilt is available.

Used with permission.  American Patchwork & Quilting  October 2009

For those of you that are regular readers of my blog, you'll recognize this quilt from the cover of American Patchwork & Quilting magazine.  I named the quilt Waltzing Leaves and the folks at AP&Q chose to rename the quilt Scattered Leaves.  So, when I published the pattern, I wanted to name it Waltzing Leaves to match the quilt label.  Six of one, half dozen of another, I guess.

This quilt is a scrap-buster, for sure!  I chose one single light print for the background of all those Maple Leaf blocks.  This gives continuity to the blocks and provides a place for the eye to rest.  I try to fit a single use fabric into my scrappy quilts as often as I can for that reason.  It keeps "busy" quilts from becoming chaotic.

For all other parts of the quilt, scraps are the name of the game.  While I used plenty of fall and Halloween themed fabrics, I also pulled in regular, every-day type prints that were colored in my fall palette.  Oh, and I also enlisted the help (and stashes) of two dear friends!!  That made for the ultimate in scrappiness!!

There's easy, breezy piecing with the Maple Leaf block surrounded by Half Log Cabin strips. Rotate the blocks so they "waltz" around the quilt and you'll have a comfy, cozy quilt to cuddle under when the weather turns chilly.

Click here to order my Waltzing Leaves pattern.

I'm on my way home from market, so I'll be posting all my "finds" very shortly.  I'll also be telling you a little bit about the big, huge, very exciting project I've been working on since last summer!  It's almost time share the news!!

Gone To Spring Market In Pittsburgh!

Well, it's that time of year when once again the creative talents of this wonderful industry all meet under one roof to show and share all that's new in the quilting world.  It's always exciting, energizing, inspiring, and just plain fun.  It's a reunion, too, with people I email and Facebook with through out the year, and now get to visit with in person.  While it's a whole lotta work preparing for, it's a whole lotta fun.

I won't be blogging while I'm gone, but have taken care of Friday's sew-along, so we're all set with that.  Follow me on Facebook (Heartspun Quilts Pam Buda) for news and snapshots from behind the scenes at Quilt Market.  Perhaps I'll take a few selfies while I'm at it!  (Or...better yet, just leave myself out of the picture.)

For sure, I'll come home with lots of pictures of my favorite finds that will be in your local quilt shops in the coming months.  Of course I'll share it with all of you right here.

Don't forget to check out the new Market Day Sew-along Flickr page!

Flickr Group For Market Day Sew-Along!!

You're invited to join the Market Day Sew-Along Flickr group!!  I must confess that this was not my idea.  It's a great idea, but it wasn't mine.  Rachael Ferrera wrote me an email suggesting we start a Flickr group for the sew-along.  My interest was piqued, but I didn't know anything about Flickr other than having heard of it.

Rachael was kind enough to drag me further into twenty-first century technology (willingly!), explaining it was easier than posting on Facebook or other social media sites.  Well.....I can do that so...surely I can explore Flickr....which is exactly what I did.  Easy, breezy!!

What can we do with our Flickr group??  Each week, you can add photos of your Market Day Sew-along blocks to share with all the other quilters worldwide as we sew together.  See fabric combos and chart progress. I'm sure it will be very inspiring and creative!!

You don't have to post photos (we sure hope you will).  You can just click the link below to browse and peruse the photos that are posted to Flickr.  My block photos will be posted there as well.

Oh....I'm soooo jazzed about this.  How fun!!  The link for our Flickr group is below....check it out and please consider joining the group!!

https://www.flickr.com/groups/marketdaysew-along/

In case you're like me, and not really sure about how to do this, Rachael went above and beyond in creating a wonderful pictorial How~To Flickr document.  Click here to be transported into twenty-first century technology!!   Now we have no excuse.

I'm going to download the Flickr App, too!!   Fun, fun, fun.

Thank you so much, Rachael, for all you did putting this together so we can enjoy each other's work!!  Your kindness and generosity is most definitely appreciated!!
